PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cassiano Victor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doug Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Victor comes to the cage accompanied by Enigma - Hello and welcome. Marshall is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Breathe -- Disturbed. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cassiano Victor!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Doug Marshall!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Victor steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Marshall.
A looping hook to the body misses from Victor. Marshall does a little dance to reset his feet.
Victor rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Marshall counters with a nice leg kick.
Victor is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Marshall.
Victor has his takedown stuffed
and Marshall counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Victor is looking to clinch.
Marshall fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Marshall enables Victor to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Marshall manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Marshall has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marshall's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Victor landing strikes from the mount and Marshall is in trouble!
Marshall wants to hold on but Victor pushes him away.

Marshall is looking to improve his position but Victor isn't that keen on the idea.

Marshall is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Victor swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Marshall is now in Victor's guard. A big mistake from Victor there, giving up the dominant position!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Marshall avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Marshall wants to control from the top but Victor keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Doug Marshall.

Marshall tries to lock up and control but Victor gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Marshall might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Victor kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Victor has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Victor unloads with some shots from mount but Marshall bucks and avoids them well.

Victor takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Marshall is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Marshall sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Marshall moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Victor shoots in for a takedown but Marshall shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Victor misses with a straight right.
Victor loads up on a big right hand but Marshall slips the punch.
Marshall tries to land a front kick but Victor steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Marshall lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Victor throws a looping overhand right but Marshall ducks down to avoid it.

and Marshall counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Victor thinking.
Doug Marshall is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Marshall misses with a kick to the body.
Marshall jabs Victor to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Marshall throws a half hearted mid kick.
Victor misses with a hook
and Marshall cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Marshall lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Victor tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Marshall throws an overhand right that lands on Victor's shoulder, as Victor tries to avoid the shot.
That kick from Marshall tenderised Victor's leg. Victor is trying to keep his angry face on.

Marshall misses with a few strikes there.
A thudding body kick lands there by Marshall!
Victor is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Marshall throws a jab but it's blocked by Victor.
Marshall throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Marshall dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Victor. That did some damage!

Victor is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

A solid leg kick lands there for Marshall.
Marshall with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Marshall throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Marshall looks to score with a jab to the body but Victor is just out of range.
Marshall throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Marshall counters with a low kick, right behind Victor 's knee.
Doug Marshall is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

I think Marshall has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
