Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Osulep Lig (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gerry Smithies (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gerry Smithies has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smithies shoots in and gets a takedown into Lig's guard.

Lig is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Lig has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smithies can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Lig wants to sweep here but Smithies controlling him for the moment.
Lig is controlling Smithies's posture.
Smithies sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Lig's guard.

Smithies is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Lig sees it coming and defends easily.

Smithies is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lig is just riding it out for now. Smithies eventually gives up the hold.
Smithies tries to pass the half guard into mount. Lig knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lig is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Lig gets full guard.

Lig isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Smithies stacks Lig on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Smithies!
Lig is looking for a sweep.

Lig gets back to half guard.
Lig has his hands clasped together around Smithies's back. He's all about the action.

Lig looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Smithies is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Lig doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Smithies.
Smithies tries to pass to full mount but Lig defends it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Lig moves into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lig tries to strike from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lig manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Smithies looks gassed!

Lig goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Smithies is on top in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Gerry Smithies will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Lig wants to clinch up but Smithies keeps it at a distance.
Lig misses with an uppercut

and Smithies counters with a takedown into side control.

Smithies swings around for an armbar but Lig sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Smithies's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lig accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Lig trying to control but Smithies is working from the bottom.

Lig avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Smithies is breathing heavily.

Lig trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Lig lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Smithies keeping moving, preventing Lig from controlling successfully.
Smithies preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Lig postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Lig looking to sit in guard and control but Smithies gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Smithies got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lig has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smithies has managed to get both his arms back between Lig's legs - danger averted.

Smithies is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Lig has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Smithies is looking to defend but Lig has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Smithies! Lig pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Smithies taps out and this one is all over!
