Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jim Carlo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mubarak Lesnar! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Steve Erwin and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lesnar feints and as Carlo raises his hands in defense, Lesnar changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Lesnar drops back, looking for a kneebar! Carlo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Carlo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Carlo! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Carlo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lesnar knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Lesnar taking punishment in the form of punches.
Lesnar manages to work his way to half guard, despite Carlo's best efforts. Carlo wants to control but Lesnar is keeping him busy. Carlo prevents Lesnar from standing back up.
Lesnar tries to roll over but Carlo keeps him under control. Lesnar trying to control from the bottom.
Carlo looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lesnar trying to hold on to Carlo's head to control him but Carlo postures up.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. A momentary lapse in concentration from Carlo enables Lesnar to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Carlo manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Carlo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lesnar is one step ahead there. Lesnar must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Lesnar works a leg free and moves into half guard. Lesnar is looking for a kimura but Carlo is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lesnar to get the leverage. Carlo manages to get to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Carlo lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Lesnar! You get the feeling that Lesnar really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Carlo trying to control but Lesnar is having none of it. Carlo throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Lesnar has his hands clasped together but Carlo breaks the hold and Lesnar is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Carlo!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jim Carlo!
