Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Yoshihro Akiyama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julius Schoonover (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Schoonover comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Daylight - Matt and Kim kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoshihro Akiyama!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Julius Schoonover!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schoonover catches Akiyama with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Akiyama has his takedown stuffed

and Schoonover counters with a nice double leg into side control. Akiyama won't be happy with that.
You can see the frustration on Akiyama's face as Schoonover controls the position.
Akiyama is trying to get back to half guard.

Schoonover thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Schoonover wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Akiyama, who protects the arm well.

Akiyama throws his legs up looking for a submission but Schoonover uses it to pass to side control.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Akiyama shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Schoonover's guard.

Akiyama is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Schoonover to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

Akiyama is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Schoonover is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Schoonover has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Akiyama is working away from the top position though.

Akiyama seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Akiyama thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Schoonover's head.
Akiyama passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Schoonover!

Akiyama goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Schoonover turns into him and now he's in Akiyama's guard.

Schoonover is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Akiyama is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Akiyama has escaped and now he's on top!
Akiyama throws and elbow that misses. Schoonover uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Akiyama's guard. Nice move by Schoonover!

Akiyama is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Schoonover takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Akiyama shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Schoonover counters with a single leg into guard. Akiyama didn't expect that.

Schoonover wants to take a breather but Akiyama is having none of it.

Schoonover is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Akiyama is just riding it out for now. Schoonover eventually gives up the hold.

Akiyama drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Akiyama as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Schoonover screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Akiyama! Nice submission victory there!
