The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Materla with a lazy takedown attempt

so The Last Emperor counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Materla looking to control.
Materla wants to sweep but no luck.
The Last Emperor trying to control but Materla is working from the bottom.
Materla working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from The Last Emperor.
The Last Emperor wants to control from the top but Materla keeps moving.

Materla is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and The Last Emperor defends well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The Last Emperor drops back looking for a leg! Materla is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Materla manages to kick The Last Emperor off! The Last Emperor jumps back into Materla's guard.

The Last Emperor thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Materla had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. The Last Emperor defends it easily.
The Last Emperor tries to free his leg and advance position but Materla is retaining full guard.
Materla bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in The Last Emperor's guard.
Materla forces his way into half guard.
The Last Emperor knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Materla on the ground.

Materla wants to work for an arm triangle but The Last Emperor is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The Last Emperor tries to roll over but Materla keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Materla is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so The Last Emperor is just riding it out for now. Materla eventually gives up the hold.

Materla is sneakily working for an arm triangle but The Last Emperor sees it coming and defends easily.
Materla wants to take a breather but The Last Emperor is having none of it.

Materla is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and The Last Emperor defends it well.

Materla decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

The Last Emperor shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Materla looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! The Last Emperor has picked Materla up and slammed him! Materla can't keep hold of the triangle and The Last Emperor manages to pass to side control!

Materla looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but The Last Emperor is defending well. Materla quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! The Last Emperor has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Materla celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
