Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marius Zaromskis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anthony Johnson had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Anthony Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marius Zaromskis!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, John Mangel and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson tries for a takedown but Zaromskis circles away easily
and Zaromskis counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Johnson fails with a takedown attempt.
Johnson has his takedown stuffed
and Zaromskis counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.


It looks like Anthony Johnson has been cut.

Johnson darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Johnson connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Johnson throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Zaromskis on the side of the head.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Johnson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Johnson looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Johnson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Zaromskis can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Zaromskis wants to hold on but Johnson pushes him away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Zaromskis is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Zaromskis wants to control his opponent's hands but Johnson gets his hands free.
Zaromskis might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Johnson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

We're going to have a standup here because Anthony Johnson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Johnson swings wildly with an uppercut but Zaromskis uses good head movement to avoid it.
Johnson is trying to push Zaromskis away but Zaromskis has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Zaromskis gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Johnson regains guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zaromskis wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.

Zaromskis has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Johnson is proving hard to escape from.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Zaromskis wants to stand and escape but instead Johnson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zaromskis can do anything to dispel that myth.

Zaromskis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Zaromskis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Johnson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Zaromskis to the mat! Zaromskis manages to get full guard.
Zaromskis controls Johnson momentarily but Johnson frees himself.
Zaromskis is looking to stand up but Johnson isn't so interested in that idea.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Johnson shoots in looking for a takedown. Zaromskis tries to sprawl out of it but Johnson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Zaromskis manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Zaromskis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Zaromskis showed some decent athleticism there.

Johnson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Zaromskis on the ground.
