Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Sean Mess! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Lasse Kongo! The judges for this bout are William Gold, Paul Tew and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kongo shoots in for a double leg but Mess sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Mess moves in looking to clinch but Kongo pushes him off. Mess fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kongo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mess tries to avoid it but Kongo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mess to the ground. Mess escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Mess is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Kongo pushes Mess up against the cage in a clinch. Mess wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Kongo manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Mess wants to get up but he can't break Kongo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Mess gets to his feet - Kongo follows without any prompting. Mess fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kongo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kongo showed some decent athleticism there. Kongo is working for a submission of some sort.
Kongo stops Mess from getting back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mess makes his way to full guard, as Kongo worked for a kimura.
Kongo slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Kongo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Kongo goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Mess rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Kongo's guard! Nice work there by Mess! Kongo looks gassed! Kongo keeping moving, preventing Mess from controlling successfully. Kongo is looking for a triangle but Mess pushes his legs off easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mess decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kongo, up you get! Mess scores with a takedown into Kongo's guard. Mess stands and steps away. Kongo gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Mess tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kongo swats him away and circles back towards the center. Kongo tries for a takedown but Mess circles away easily and Mess counters by moving into the clinch. Sean Mess has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lasse Kongo. Kongo goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mess prevents it.
Mess wants to get back to striking at distance but Kongo won't allow it.
Kongo keeps control of Mess as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Kongo is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Kongo drops down looking for an ankle pick but Mess pulls his leg out and moves away.
Kongo should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Mess throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mess fails in his attempt to clinch. Kongo pushes Mess up against the cage in a clinch. Kongo turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Kongo manages to end up in side control. Kongo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mess has escaped the position, nice work there. Kongo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kongo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Mess tries to bench press Kongo off him but Kongo keeps the position. Kongo working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Mess is looking for a sweep. Kongo swings around for an armbar but Mess sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Kongo's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mess is in close to Kongo's body, working some short punches and elbows. Kongo looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mess gets to his feet - Kongo follows without any prompting. Kongo misses with a takedown and Mess counters with a takedown into side control. This has been an exciting period of action! Kongo is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Mess has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Mess throws a sloppy head kick and Kongo moves out of range easily. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Mess clinches but Kongo breaks the clinch and Kongo counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Mess's guard now. Kongo prevents Mess from getting back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Lasse Kongo will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Horrible takedown by Kongo or perhaps it was just good defense by Mess which made him look bad. Kongo fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Mess decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Kongo is trying to get back to full guard. Mess is looking to advance position but Kongo won't allow it. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Mess prevents Kongo from improving his position. Mess is looking for a kimura but Kongo is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mess to get the leverage. Sean Mess overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Kongo looking for submissions off his back. Kongo is breathing heavily. Mess stands up and beckons Kongo to join him on the feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kongo misses with a takedown and Mess counters with a straight right hand. Sean Mess has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lasse Kongo. Mess swinging wilding here.
Mess clinches up with Kongo and pushes him back against the cage. Mess holding his opponent close, against the cage.

Kongo is pressed up against the cage. Mess has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kongo down to the mat. Kongo avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Sean Mess is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Mess connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Kongo with a poor takedown and Mess counters with a two punch combo. Kongo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Mess decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kongo's guard. Mess stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kongo swivels though and keeps the full guard. Mess gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mess wants to clinch and Kongo moves into the clinch. Mess wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Kongo drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mess is trying to stall.

Mess breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kongo doesn't succeed with the takedown and Mess counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kongo! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Mess gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Kongo has his takedown stuffed and Mess counters with a three punch combo that has Kongo backing up. Kongo nods at Mess to acknowledge the strikes. Mess lands a glancing blow to the side of Kongo's head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Danga de danga de dang - Mess scores with a four punch combination! No joy there for Mess, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kongo doesn't succeed with the takedown and Mess counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Mess looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Mess scores with a jab. Mess lands a body shot.
Mess throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Mess gets in close and instigates a clinch. Mess breaks the clinch.
Mess tries to clinch and Kongo counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Kongo has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mess is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Mess lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. Kongo takes a shot to the head. Kongo prevents the takedown attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kongo gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mess moves into full guard.
Kongo pushing down on Mess's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Mess is in trouble now - Kongo has advanced to mount! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mess defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Kongo. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Mess is trying to stand. Kongo is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Mess has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Mess! Kongo wants to sweep but no luck. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mess missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Mess content to stall in guard here. Kongo tries to land a sweep but no joy. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sean Mess dominated that second round. That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Mess is looking to clinch. Mess darts in trying to clinch and Kongo counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kongo. Kongo won't allow Mess to sweep him here. Mess looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Mess wants to sweep but no luck. Mess is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Mess keeping moving, preventing Kongo from controlling successfully. Kongo stops Mess from standing up. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Kongo decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mess, up you get! Mess doesn't have the hooks in and Kongo manages to turn into his guard.
Kongo passes Mess's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Kongo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mess defends it well. Mess is trying to stand.
Mess gets full guard. Mess keeping moving, preventing Kongo from controlling successfully. Mess looking for a guillotine here but Kongo defends easily.
Kongo won't allow Mess to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kongo passes into half guard. Mess wants to get back to his feet. Mess trying to hold on to Kongo's head to control him but Kongo postures up.
Kongo seems to be working for a kimura but Mess defends the submission attempt. Mess gets full guard. Mess looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Kongo postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mess is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kongo, into his guard. Kongo keeping full guard, as Mess tries to pass.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mess gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Mess stuffs the takedown attempt from Kongo. Kongo gets slowly back to his feet. Kongo keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Kongo looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Mess is defending against the submission attempts here by Kongo.
Kongo seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Mess is trying to get back to full guard. Kongo wants to pass to mount but Mess is defending the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mess looks like he's trying to stand up.
Kongo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Mess is pressing down on Kongo's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Kongo tries to free his leg and advance position but Mess is retaining full guard. Kongo is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Mess had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Kongo is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Mess Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Kongo's back instead. Mess misses with an elbow to the head. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Mess is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Kongo is defending well though. Mess let's go of the attempt for now. Mess tightening his grip on Kongo, looking for the choke.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sean Mess. Well Mess has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
