PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jacob Creek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian McGilla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jacob Creek!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Brian McGilla!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGilla misses with a body kick.
Creek looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
A head kick misses from Creek.
McGilla shoots in for a takedown but Creek shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Creek displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from McGilla.

McGilla clinches with his opponent.

McGilla's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
McGilla swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Creek counters with a head kick.

and McGilla counters with a series of strikes. Creek will be more careful next time no doubt.

McGilla lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

McGilla wants the takedown. Creek is fighting it off but McGilla persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Creek's guard against the cage.

McGilla trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
McGilla stays in close to Creek's body and controls the position.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Brian McGilla wasn't active enough on the ground.
McGilla lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by McGilla.


It looks like Jacob Creek has been cut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McGilla throws a series of punches but Creek moves out of range.
McGilla lands with a thumping leg kick.
McGilla fails to land the takedown.
Jacob Creek has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian McGilla.

McGilla closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - McGilla lands in his opponent's guard.

McGilla drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and McGilla jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
McGilla is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

McGilla wants to stand but Creek is controlling his posture from full guard.

McGilla is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Brian McGilla hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

McGilla pushes Creek up against the cage in a clinch.
McGilla lands with a short shot to the head.
McGilla jumps guard but Creek stands there with McGilla around his waist. McGilla gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

McGilla wants to stand but Creek is controlling the position.

McGilla working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Creek doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Creek manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Creek tries to keep at a distance but McGilla has taken the fight into the clinch.

McGilla manages to pull guard.

McGilla is controlling Creek's posture.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McGilla is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Brian McGilla was stalling too much, according to the referee.

McGilla bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

McGilla is trying to get an arm triangle but Creek is defending well.
Creek takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

McGilla wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Creek, who protects the arm well.
McGilla wants to stand but Creek is controlling his arm.
Creek parries the strikes from McGilla easily there. McGilla is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Creek to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
McGilla tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Creek wants to get back to his feet.
McGilla in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
McGilla lands a decent elbow from side control.
McGilla scoring with punches from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brian McGilla showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


McGilla misses with a head kick.

McGilla shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Creek's guard.

Let's hope that McGilla has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

McGilla has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Brian McGilla wasn't active enough on the ground.

Creek gets caught flat footed, as McGilla shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
McGilla wants to pass the guard but Creek is keeping the position.
McGilla is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
McGilla trying to control but Creek is working from the bottom.

Brian McGilla has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
McGilla throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Creek's waist but Creek gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McGilla off to one side.

McGilla is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

McGilla ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. McGilla no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Creek would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
McGilla wants to sweep here but Creek controlling him for the moment.
Creek stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McGilla swivels though and keeps the full guard.
McGilla looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Creek puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Jacob Creek has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Creek is thwarting McGilla's attempts to control the position.
McGilla is looking to improve his position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Creek tries to stand but his hand is stuck under McGilla.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brian McGilla comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well McGilla has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
