13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Yoshihiro Takaya! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Skip Squint and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Takaya scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Takaya in side control, just content to control the action for now. Gracie tries to improve position but can't. Takaya happy to just control the position for now. Gracie is looking for a sweep. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Takaya in side control, throwing shots but Gracie defends. Gracie is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Takaya trying to mount his opponent but Gracie defends it. Takaya sitting and controlling from the half guard. Takaya trying to control from half guard but Gracie is working away. Gracie looking for submissions from an awkward position here. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Takaya is keen to just control but Gracie is a slippery customer. Takaya content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Takaya is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Gracie has managed to free his arm - good work. Gracie looking for submissions off his back. Gracie taking some punishment here, with Takaya in his half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie wants to get back to full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Takaya in particular looking to stall. Takaya's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Takaya is looking to take a break and control but Gracie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Takaya is pressing down on Gracie's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gracie is holding on for now.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Yoshihiro Takaya hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Takaya's jab looks to have found its range, popping Gracie under the eye. Gracie takes one to the side of the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Takaya with a nice cross. Takaya looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Gracie working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Takaya. Takaya working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Takaya trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Takaya connects with a couple of short punches. Takaya works a leg free and moves into half guard. Gracie is staying active underneath Takaya, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Gracie has hold of Takaya's hands but Takaya slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Takaya is figuring out what he wants to do next. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gracie shoots and misses and Takaya counters with a nice double leg into guard. Gracie looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Gracie keeping moving, preventing Takaya from controlling successfully. Gracie is looking for a triangle here but Takaya uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Takaya working the ground and pound. Takaya working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Takaya has knee on belly and moves into mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Takaya trying to control but he's not successful this time. Takaya landing shots from mount. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Takaya cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Gracie sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Takaya trying to mount his opponent but Gracie defends it. Takaya content to control rather than advance. Takaya is trying to work for a kimura but Gracie is defending well.
Takaya moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Gracie.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Takaya is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gracie has escaped the position, nice work there. Takaya lands some shots froms side control. Gracie sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Takaya working the head and body with strikes. Takaya wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gracie keeps working. Yoshihiro Takaya has got the better of the ground game so far. Takaya seems to be looking for submissions.
Takaya scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Takaya trying to pass the guard but Gracie defending well. Still in half guard, Takaya seems content to control. Gracie manages to get to full guard.
Takaya throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gracie works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Takaya trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Takaya pushes down on Gracie's leg and manages to get into half guard. Takaya is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gracie is just riding it out for now. Takaya eventually gives up the hold. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Yoshihiro Takaya showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Takaya tries to bum rush Gracie with a series of wild strikes but Gracie uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Takaya moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Takaya lands with an uppercut that bounces Gracie off the cage and back into rage. Oooh a lovely combination from Takaya sends Gracie down but not out. Takaya dives into side control looking to finish.
Gracie is rocked!
It looks like Rermes Gracie has been cut. Gracie is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Oh Gracie is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Takaya scoring with strikes to the body and head. Takaya is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Takaya performing his best blanket impression for a moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Takaya is working for a kimura but Gracie is defending it quite comfortably.
Gracie seems to have got his legs back now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Takaya wants to take a breather but Gracie is having none of it. Takaya slips a nice elbow through Gracie's hands, connecting with Gracie's forehead. Takaya is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gracie doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Takaya. Gracie looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Gracie wants to get back to full guard but Takaya has passed into side control. Takaya works to advance to full mount. Gracie defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Takaya lands a nice shot to the head. Gracie takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Gracie working to try and regain half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Takaya drops a big elbow. That's hurt Gracie! More shots from Takaya and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
