Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Royce Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pierre LaPointe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie's entrance music is Faint - Linkin Park. A fine choice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Royce Gracie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pierre LaPointe! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! LaPointe wants to clinch but Gracie slips to the side and Gracie connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. LaPointe wants to clinch but Gracie slips to the side and Gracie cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. A solid leg kick lands there for LaPointe.
A looping hook to the body misses from LaPointe. Gracie does a little dance to reset his feet. Gracie closes the distance and clinches up with LaPointe, looking for a takedown. Gracie pushes LaPointe against the cage but LaPointe circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. LaPointe fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Gracie. Gracie throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. LaPointe was covering up waiting for the punch and Gracie finishes the takedown easily into guard. Gracie wants to control from the top but LaPointe keeps moving. LaPointe is adopting a defensive guard. Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. LaPointe swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. LaPointe is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gracie is controlling him. Gracie is pushing down on LaPointe's leg trying to pass to half guard. LaPointe is fighting to maintain full guard but Gracie has managed to sneak the leg through. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gracie looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gracie is sneakily working for an arm triangle but LaPointe sees it coming and defends easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Gracie has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. LaPointe is trying to escape the mount.
LaPointe has given up his back. Will we see Gracie going for some submissions?
LaPointe is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Gracie off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted. Gracie is looking for the choke from the back position but LaPointe is controlling his hands well. LaPointe looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. LaPointe defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. LaPointe is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. LaPointe is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. LaPointe preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Gracie. Gracie has the hooks in. LaPointe is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Gracie is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. LaPointe is defending well though. Gracie let's go of the attempt for now. That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Gracie patiently working for the choke. LaPointe defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Gracie's arms. LaPointe controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. LaPointe manages to reverse the position and now he's in Gracie's guard. Nice work there by LaPointe.

LaPointe wants to clinch but Gracie slips to the side and Gracie counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Gracie works his foot free and advances to mount. Gracie looking to secure an arm triangle but LaPointe defends it well. LaPointe defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Gracie. Royce Gracie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

LaPointe wants to hold on but Gracie pushes him away. Gracie is going oldschool here, as he tries to force LaPointe to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so LaPointe shrugs it off. LaPointe tries to hold on but Gracie pushes him away. Gracie is working for a guillotine from mount but LaPointe frees his head quite easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Gracie jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… LaPointe is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by LaPointe and Gracie has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but LaPointe keeps working. Gracie is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. LaPointe knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Gracie is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, LaPointe has escaped the position, nice work there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. LaPointe gets back to half guard. Gracie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and LaPointe defends it well. Gracie wants to pass the guard but LaPointe is defending well. LaPointe is trying to get back to full guard. LaPointe tries to kick Gracie off but Gracie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Gracie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and LaPointe defends it well. LaPointe is staying active underneath Gracie, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Gracie is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Gracie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. LaPointe doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gracie. LaPointe is trying to escape back to his feet but Gracie uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Gracie shoots for a double leg takedown but LaPointe sprawls well. He's pushed Gracie's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. LaPointe fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gracie has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. A solid leg kick lands there for LaPointe.

LaPointe is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Gracie is controlling him well. Gracie is trying to get an arm triangle but LaPointe is defending well. And that's the end of the fight! Royce Gracie showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gracie, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
