Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Erevis Cale! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Sanders! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Eliza Hachem and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sanders drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sanders is working Cale over with some ground and pound from side control. Sanders working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Sanders throwing strikes but Cale manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control! Sanders is looking for a sweep. Cale decides to take the fight back to the feet. Sanders gets a takedown into half guard. Sanders is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Sanders thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Cale to regain full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cale is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Sanders is working Cale over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Sanders throws and elbow that misses. Cale uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sanders's guard. Nice move by Cale! Cale loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Cale is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Cale stopping the sweep attempt from Sanders. Sanders is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Sanders strikes from his own guard. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Cale controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Cale wanted to stand there but Sanders had control of the position. Sanders working a defensive guard here.
Cale won't allow Sanders to sweep him here. Sanders is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Cale will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Sanders is trying to hold Cale in close to prevent damage but Cale has managed to pass into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cale lands a nice short elbow. Cale is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cale prevents Sanders from improving his position. Cale perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Sanders is refusing to be controlled, as Cale sits in half guard. Cale prevents Sanders from improving his position. Sanders has hold of Cale's hands but Cale slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Cale prevents Sanders from improving his position. Sanders gets full guard. Sanders keeping full guard, as Cale tries to pass. Sanders is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sanders can do anything to dispel that myth. Sanders looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Cale is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Cale trying to control the position from guard on top but Sanders is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Sanders has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Cale has passed into side control.
Sanders really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cale. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Cale working the ground and pound. Cale trying to control the action but Sanders is working from the bottom. Cale is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sanders is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Cale is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sanders has escaped the position, nice work there. Sanders is positioning himself to get back to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Mike Sanders will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Cale lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
A decent looking cross lands there for Cale. Cale throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Sanders is trying hard to land a takedown here. Cale sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Cale lands a jab-cross combination. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sanders takes a jab right on the kisser.
Left hook, right uppercut from Cale. Cale scores with a hook to the body. Sanders takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Cale lands a jab to the head.
Sanders rushes Cale and presses him up against the cage. Sanders is breathing heavily. Cale is trying to break the clinch but Sanders has him pressed against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. A battle for position here, against the cage. Cale breaks the clinch.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sanders. Cale thows a body kick. Sanders tries to catch it but that hurt him. Cale thumps Sanders with a low kick. Cale scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Cale lands a high kick!
Cale scores with a jab to the body. Cale lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cale cracks the inside of Sanders's front leg. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A thudding body kick lands there by Cale!
Cale throws a nice inside leg kick. Sanders tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Sanders takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Cale looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Sanders! Cale trying to control but Sanders is having none of it. Cale sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cale looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Sanders is trying to escape the mount.
Sanders is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Cale controlling from the full mount. Cale in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Cale lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Cale wants to control the pace but Sanders is squirming around nicely. Sanders is in all sorts of trouble here.
Cale is landing with some decent strikes but Sanders is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cale looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sanders is trying to escape the mount.
Cale takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cale punishing his opponent with strikes. Cale has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Sanders's face.
Sanders is trying desperately to improve position. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Sanders wants to hold on but Cale pushes him away. Erevis Cale overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Cale landing strikes from the mount and Sanders is in trouble! Sanders working to try and regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Erevis Cale dominated that second round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
Cale connects with a looping right hand.
Sanders takes a kick to the side of the head. Sanders tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Cale feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Sanders's calf. Cale is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Cale connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Erevis Cale is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Sanders gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Cale. Sanders's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. Cale connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Sanders takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Cale tries to bum rush Sanders with a series of wild strikes but Sanders uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Cale scores with a nice strike.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cale lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Cale connects with an inside leg kick. Cale shoots in and bounces Sanders off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Cale preventing the sweep. Cale thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Cale won't allow Sanders to sweep him here. Cale sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sanders's guard. Sanders is looking to improve his position.
Cale seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sanders does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Cale is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sanders can do to turn this around? The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cale connects with a nice short shot to Sanders's temple.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cale has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Cale breaks from Sanders's wrist control and lands an elbow. Cale prevents Sanders from getting the reversal. Cale controlling from mount. Cale has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Cale tries to control but Sanders wriggling away. BOOM! Cale connects with a massive shot to the dome!

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cale lands a big shot there that rocks Sanders but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Sanders is looking to get to half guard. Sanders throwing hammer fists to the chest of Cale. What's that going to do exactly? Sanders is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Cale wants to control the pace but Sanders is squirming around nicely. Cale content just to control the position here. Cale prevents Sanders from getting the reversal.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Cale looking to secure an arm triangle but Sanders defends it well. Cale prevents Sanders from getting the reversal. Cale lands a heavy elbow. Sanders is looking to get to half guard. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Cale is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Sanders is surviving well by controlling Cale's body position as best he can. Sanders is working to get back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Cale looking to control and managing it successfully. Sanders sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
