PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Peter Walter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Reis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reis has chosen Master Of Puppets as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Walter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rodrigo Reis!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reis misses with a combination
and Walter counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Walter gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Reis counters with a solid body kick.
Reis misses with a few strikes there.
Walter fails with the takedown
and Reis counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Reis throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Walter counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Walter trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Reis keeping full guard, as Walter tries to pass.
Walter in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Walter is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Reis is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Reis has escaped and now he's on top!
Reis wanted to stand there but Walter had control of the position.

Walter looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Reis passes into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Walter tries to bench press Reis off him but Reis keeps the position.
Walter struggling a bit here.
Reis wants to stand but Walter is controlling his arm.
Reis working away.
Reis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Walter. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Reis wants to stand but Walter has his arm trapped.
Walter throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Reis tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Walter can't do much from the bottom here.
Walter tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Reis wants to stand but Walter is controlling his arm.
Walter gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Reis wants to stand but Walter has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Reis is thwarting Walter's attempts to control the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Walter wants to control but Reis is keeping busy.
Walter misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Reis wants to stand up but Walter has a hold of him and won't allow it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Walter dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Walter tries for a takedown but Reis circles away easily
and Reis counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Walter misses with a takedown attempt
and Reis counters with a right hand to the body.
Reis fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Peter Walter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Walter with a poor takedown
and Reis counters with a left to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter Walter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reis will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Reis lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Reis.

A nice inside leg kick there by Reis. That's going to slow Walter down.
Crunch! Reis slams his shin into Walter's torso.
Nice sprawl there from Reis as Walter shoots in.
Reis stuns Walter with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Reis tries to bum rush Walter with a series of wild strikes but Walter uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Reis lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Walter backs up against the cage.
A head kick misses from Reis.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Reis dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Walter. That did some damage!
Reis scores with a nice head shot.
Walter tries for a takedown but Reis circles away easily
and Reis counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Walter thinking.
Reis changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Reis throws a right and a left that both miss.
Walter takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reis's corner calls for a 1-2. Reis obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
No luck for Walter with that takedown attempt.
Reis throws a sloppy head kick and Walter moves out of range easily.
Walter takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Walter showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Reis.

and Reis makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Walter really felt that one!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
No joy there for Reis, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Walter shoots in and bounces Reis off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Walter throws a big right hand that misses.
Walter is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Walter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rodrigo Reis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Walter postures up in Reis's guard and throws a big left but Reis blocks it.
Walter missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Walter loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Walter is looking to work some ground and pound but Reis has wrist control.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Walter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Walter not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Reis lands a front kick.
Walter fails with the takedown
and Reis counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter Walter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Walter gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
enabling Reis to counter with a crisp jab.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Reis misses with a series of wild punches.
Walter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Reis tries to avoid it but Walter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Reis to the ground. Reis escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Walter shoots and misses
and Reis counters with a series of strikes. Walter will be more careful next time no doubt.
Reis lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Walter shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Reis ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Walter moves away.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Peter Walter.
I think Walter has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
