Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ravi Matos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeremy Toney! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Matos doesn't succeed with the takedown and Toney counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. A left lands for Toney. Matos is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Toney jabs Matos to the body, keeping him at a distance. Matos shoots and misses and Toney counters with a straight right hand. Matos shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Matos sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Toney defending well though. Matos is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Toney reverses the position - he's now on top in Matos's guard. Toney tries to stand but Matos is controlling from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Toney showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Matos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Toney wants to stand but Matos has a closed guard, so he can't escape. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Matos wants to stand but Toney is controlling the position. Toney must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Toney passes Matos's left leg - he's now in half guard. Matos is looking to get back to full guard here but Toney has managed to pass to side control instead.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Toney stands up. Matos shoots in but doesn't get the takedown enabling Toney to counter with a crisp jab. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ravi Matos. That's going to take a lot out of him. Matos tries for a takedown but Toney circles away easily letting Toney counter with a right hand. Toney jabs Matos right on the nose. Matos blinks but takes it well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nice shot lands for Toney. Toney smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Matos is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Toney's half guard. Matos thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Toney to regain full guard. Toney looking to hit a scissor sweep but Matos is one step ahead there. Matos wants to control from the top but Toney keeps moving. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Matos won't allow Toney to sweep him here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jeremy Toney dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Toney moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Matos tries for a takedown but Toney circles away easily and Toney counters with a lovely straight right hand! Toney connects with a looping right hand.
Matos misses with a takedown and Toney counters with a lovely straight right hand! Matos shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Matos with a poor takedown and Toney counters with a left and a right that stings Matos. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ravi Matos. That's going to take a lot out of him. Matos takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Matos is rocked! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Matos shoots and misses and Toney counters with a nice double leg into side control. Matos won't be happy with that. Oh Matos is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Matos being controlled for a moment. Matos seems to have got his legs back now. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Toney has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Toney connects with a good right hand that stumbles Matos. Matos circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Toney feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Matoss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
It looks like Ravi Matos has been cut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Matos with a lazy takedown attempt and Toney counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Toney swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Matos. Toney smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Decent striking displayed by Toney there. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Toney fails to land with a series of punches.
Toney lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Toney scores with a hook. Toney pounces like a tiger and cracks Matos with a vicious hook! Matos is down but not out! Toney follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Jeremy Toney!
