Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, James William! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 1, fighting out of New York, Marshall Mathers! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Steve Montenegro and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! William darts in trying to clinch and Mathers counters with a straight right hand.
It looks like James William has been cut. William tries to clinch up. Mathers misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from William.
A shot to the body from Mathers misses enabling William to counter with a crisp jab. Mathers lands with a straight right. William didn't see that one coming. William throws the kick towards the body but Mathers avoids it. William misses with a wild combination.
That's one minute gone in the round. William misses with a lunging right hand
and Mathers connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. William tried to score with a low kick but Mathers checks it. Mathers throws a predictable looking body shot
and William makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. James William seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mathers takes a body punch but keeps moving. Mathers checks a low kick from William. William thows a body shot but no joy. William throws a lazy uppercut
and William takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. A shot to the body from William misses and Mathers counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. William misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Mathers counters with a left to the body. This has been an exciting period of action! Mathers lands the left hand. Mathers throws an off balance right hand
and William counters with a thumping low kick. William shoots in for a takedown but Mathers shows good takedown defense. William throws out a powerful jab. William misses with a left hand and Mathers counters with a lovely shot to the body. William uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mathers.
William walks into a jab.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mathers thuds a left hand into William's body. William misses with a body shot
enabling Mathers to counter with a crisp jab. Mathers throws an ugly left hook that misses
and William counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! William is trying to control. Mathers wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Mathers trying to control from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. William is keen to just control but Mathers is a slippery customer. Mathers blocking the ground and pound attempt from William. William throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. William is trying for a kimura here. Mathers looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! William wins by kimura!
