Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Martin Kimpolaani! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ilmari Laine! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Anni Minnemäki and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kimpolaani misses with a jab, cross combination.
Kimpolaani gets caught flat footed, as Laine shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Kimpolaani avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Laine passes Kimpolaani's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Laine prevents Kimpolaani from improving his position. Kimpolaani tries to kick Laine off but Laine keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Laine seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kimpolaani does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Laine working over Kimpolaani with some ground and pound. Kimpolaani looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Laine wants to pass the guard but Kimpolaani is defending well. Kimpolaani wants to get back to his feet.
Laine missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Laine has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice strikes from Laine there. Laine slips a nice elbow through Kimpolaani's hands, connecting with Kimpolaani's forehead. Laine thows a huge punch but Kimpolaani dodges it nicely.
Kimpolaani is trying to stand.
Kimpolaani is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Laine scores with a couple of nice shots. Laine lands strikes from half guard. Kimpolaani is looking to escape. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Laine connects with a nice short shot to Kimpolaani's temple. Laine working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Kimpolaani is rocked! Kimpolaani is breathing heavily. Laine lands a big elbow - Kimpolaani is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Laine!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:03 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ilmari Laine!
