PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between David Bottom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimbob Junior (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Junior has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jimbob Junior was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, David Bottom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jimbob Junior!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Albert Achterberg and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Junior lands the left hand.
Bottom fails with the takedown.
Junior with a lazy takedown attempt

and Bottom counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Bottom.
Junior looks gassed!

Bottom pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Nice takedown defense from Junior. No joy for Bottom on that attempt.
Junior tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bottom sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Junior somewhat.
Bottom scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Bottom shoots in but Junior avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Bottom. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Bottom is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Junior gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Bottom pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Bottom shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Bottom showed some decent athleticism there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Bottom with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Bottom decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Bottom misses with the combination.

Bottom darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Bottom thows a huge punch but Junior dodges it nicely.
Bottom wants to take a breather but Junior is having none of it.

Junior is trying to maintain the position but Bottom is very close to passing his half guard.
Bottom controlling the action here.
Junior is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Bottom trying to mount his opponent but Junior defends it.
Bottom wants to stand up but Junior has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Bottom seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Junior does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

We're going to have a standup here because David Bottom wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Bottom misses the body punch

and Junior counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Bottom trying to control the position.
Junior wants to pass the guard but Bottom is keeping the position.
Junior must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Junior postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Junior postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bottom is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

We're going to have a standup here because David Bottom wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Junior throws a series of strikes that have Bottom backpedaling.

Bottom looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Junior is looking to stand up but Bottom isn't so interested in that idea.
Bottom trying to control but Junior is working from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Junior thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Bottom dominated that round.
That's time! Bottom's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Bottom fails with the takedown
and Bottom takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
David Bottom is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Junior circles away from the clinch attempt.
Junior slips a jab and a cross from Bottom.
Junior shoots in but Bottom avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Bottom tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Junior paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Bottom fails in his attempt to clinch.
Junior avoids the head kick by Bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Junior circles away from the clinch attempt.
Bottom misses with a takedown attempt - Junior sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bottom throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bottom gets caught flat footed, as Junior shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Bottom working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Junior doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Junior manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Bottom is trying to keep Junior in close.
Junior tries to free his leg and advance position but Bottom is retaining full guard.
Junior wants to get up but he can't break Bottom's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Junior stops Bottom from standing up.
Bottom might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Junior loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Bottom on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bottom tries to get out of the position.
Bottom trying to keep a closed guard but Junior is proving a slippery customer.
Bottom is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Junior is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Bottom has managed to free his arm - good work.

Bottom kicks Junior off and gets back to his feet.
Junior shoots in but Bottom avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bottom will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Bottom shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Junior as he avoids it easily.

Junior forces Bottom back against the cage and clinches.
Junior tries to break free but Bottom pushes him back against the cage.
Bottom tries to pull guard but Junior won't allow it.
Bottom tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Junior's elbow.
Junior blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Junior jumps guard but Bottom stands there with Junior around his waist. Junior gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Junior lands with a light punch inside.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Bottom gets control of Junior's arms and successfully pulls guard. Bottom will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Bottom keeping moving, preventing Junior from controlling successfully.

Bottom looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Junior has picked Bottom up and slammed him! Bottom can't keep hold of the triangle and Junior manages to pass to side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimbob Junior showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Bottom throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

so Junior counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Bottom pulls Junior in close to prevent any damage.
Jimbob Junior has got the better of the ground game so far.
Junior wants to stand but Bottom is controlling his posture from full guard.

Bottom working for a triangle but Junior defends it easily.
Bottom not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Junior got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bottom has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Junior has managed to get both his arms back between Bottom's legs - danger averted.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Junior accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bottom is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Junior pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bottom is keeping the position for now.
Bottom has his hands on Junior's head, controlling the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. David Bottom wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Junior lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Bottom misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bottom fails with a takedown attempt.
Bottom swats away the attempt to clinch by Junior.
Junior shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bottom as he avoids it easily.
Bottom tries for a takedown but Junior sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Bottom shoots in but Junior avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Bottom. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Junior wants to clinch.
Bottom looks for a takedown but Junior sprawls well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Junior takes the fight into the clinch.
Junior gets underhooks to prevent Bottom's takedown attempt.
Junior changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bottom fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Bottom throws a body punch but Junior moves out of range.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Bottom drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Bottom tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jimbob Junior comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Junior has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
