Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Doctor Ball! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wanderlei Silva! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Mauricio Rocha and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ball misses with a few strikes there.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Ball lands a really nice looking cross but Silva seems unphased.
Silva tries to keep at a distance but Ball has taken the fight into the clinch. Ball takes a knee right on the jaw!
Ball drops down looking for an ankle pick but Silva pulls his leg out and moves away.
Silva tries to clinch but Ball is having none of it. Ball slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. A momentary lapse in concentration from Silva enables Ball to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Silva manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Silva wants to get back to his feet but Ball is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Ball gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Silva will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Ball darts in and clinches Silva up against the cage. Silva connects with a knee to the head.
Silva throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Ball blocks it with crossed arms. Silva with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Silva wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Silva keeps control of Ball as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Ball wants to break free but Silva has control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva looking to throw knees to the head but Ball is blocking nicely.
Ball is looking to break free of the clinch but Silva has double underhooks. Ball is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Silva pulls him back up using the underhooks. Silva tries a knee to the head but Ball blocks it.

Silva gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Ball.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Doctor Ball. That's going to take a lot out of him. Silva tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Silva looks gassed! Silva wants to break the clinch but can't.
Silva wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ball has him pressed against the cage. Ball is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Silva breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ball throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Silva was covering up waiting for the punch and Ball finishes the takedown easily into guard. Silva keeping full guard, as Ball tries to pass. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Silva wants to stand up but Ball is controlling him. Ball looking to pass the guard. Silva wants to stand and escape but Ball is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ball wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Silva can do anything to dispel that myth.
We're going to have a standup here because Doctor Ball wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. The fight moves into the clinch position. Silva breaks the clinch.
Ball throws a one two combo.
Ball feints and as Silva raises his hands in defense, Ball changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Ball works a leg free and moves into half guard. Silva looks like he's trying to stand up.
Ball is trying to work for a kimura but Silva is defending well.
Ball is looking to take a break and control but Silva is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Ball wants to pass the guard but Silva is defending well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ball is keen to just control but Silva is a slippery customer. Silva wants to get back to his feet. Ball wants to lay and pray for a moment but Silva keeps working. Ball is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Ball is working for a submission of some sort.
Ball wants to take a breather but Silva is having none of it. Ball is really struggling to control Silva but he's trying to hold on to the position. Silva wants to get back to his feet. Ball is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Ball wants to pass to mount but Silva is defending the position. Ball is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Silva defends it well. Silva wants to get back to his feet. Ball decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Ball wants to clinch up but Silva keeps it at a distance. Ball bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. The fight stays on the outside here - Ball looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Silva swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Ball counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Ball blocks a head kick by Silva.
Ball closes the distance and pushes Silva back into the cage. Silva wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Ball is looking to break free of the clinch but Silva has double underhooks. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Doctor Ball dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Ball shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Ball decides to stand and escape the position. Ball scores with a body shot.
Silva pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Doctor Ball is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Ball keeps the fight on the outside. Ball works the jab nicely. Silva throws a right and a left that Ball avoids nicely. Ball throws a right hand that Silva ducks under and follows up with a left that Silva also avoids with ease. Ball tries to score a power double leg takedown but Silva sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ball somewhat. Ball tries to clinch there but Silva circles away.
Silva misses with a two punch combination.
Silva misses with a head kick.
Silva is looking to clinch but Ball is avoiding it.
Silva is breathing heavily. Silva shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Silva misses with an uppercut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ball is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Silva's half guard. Silva looks like he's trying to stand up.
Ball seems to be looking for submissions.
Silva is in trouble now - Ball has advanced to mount! Ball takes Silva's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Silva is in trouble. Silva is trying to defend against the choke here but Ball has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Ball Tightens the hold and Silva taps out furiously! Ball displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
