Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kicky Mckickkick! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chase Johnson! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Summer Carpenter and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mckickkick tries to grapple but his opponent circles enabling Johnson to counter with a crisp jab. Mckickkick with a lazy takedown attempt and Johnson counters with a nice uppercut. Mckickkick misses with a takedown and Johnson counters with a lovely straight right hand! Mckickkick darts in trying to clinch enabling Johnson to counter with a crisp jab. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mckickkick blocks a head kick by Johnson.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mckickkick tries for a takedown but Johnson circles away easily and Johnson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Johnson. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kicky Mckickkick. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mckickkick controls Johnson momentarily but Johnson frees himself. Johnson landing some decent shots from guard. Mckickkick is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Mckickkick looking for a guillotine here but Johnson defends easily.
Johnson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Let's hope that Johnson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johnson stands up over Mckickkick, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Mckickkick can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Johnson controls the pace. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Chase Johnson wasn't active enough on the ground. Mckickkick gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Johnson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Johnson passes easily into side control. Nice work. Johnson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Johnson is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Mckickkick looks calm but he's in trouble here. Johnson gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Mckickkick is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Johnson lets go of the hold and Mckickkick can pop his arm back in it's socket.
