Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nolan Schmidt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Baumgartner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baumgartner is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Knock you out. Robert Baumgartner told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nolan Schmidt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Robert Baumgartner! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Gregory Folan and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schmidt tries to close the distance and clinch up but Baumgartner swats him away and circles back towards the center. Schmidt fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Baumgartner sprawls well initially but Schmidt persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Schmidt is looking to advance position but Baumgartner won't allow it. Schmidt wants to work for an arm triangle but Baumgartner is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Baumgartner can do anything to dispel that myth. Baumgartner avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Schmidt. Schmidt throwing shots but Baumgartner is blocking nicely. Schmidt is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Schmidt is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Baumgartner is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Schmidt scores with a couple of nice shots. Schmidt prevents Baumgartner from standing back up.
Baumgartner wants to improve his position but Schmidt is controlling well.
Baumgartner kicks off Schmidt and gets to his feet. Baumgartner fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Schmidt lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
It looks like Robert Baumgartner has been cut. Schmidt tries to clinch up but Baumgartner circles away and keeps his distance. Some wild striking there from Schmidt.
The fight moves into the clinch position. This has been an exciting period of action! Baumgartner gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Schmidt.
Schmidt breaks the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Schmidt shoots in for a takedown but Baumgartner shows good takedown defense. Schmidt with a jab. Schmidt gets the takedown into side control. Baumgartner prevents Schmidt from moving into mount. Schmidt lands some shots froms side control. Schmidt fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Schmidt has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Baumgartner throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Schmidt works Baumgartner's body with a nice hook. Baumgartner looks gassed! Schmidt drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Schmidt misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Check out the look on Schmidt's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Schmidt is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Baumgartner has escaped the position, nice work there. Schmidt lands an elbow. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Schmidt creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Schmidt landing strikes. Schmidt lands a nice forearm strike.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Schmidt in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Baumgartner is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
