PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joe Schmo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stu Gotts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gotts is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Godfather Theme. Stu Gotts will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joe Schmo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stu Gotts!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Ian Loll and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Schmo misses.

Schmo shoots in and gets a takedown into Gotts's guard.
Schmo engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Schmo has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Schmo passes Gotts's left leg - he's now in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Schmo not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Schmo is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Schmo working away from the top, dropping strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Schmo scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Gotts?
Schmo content just to control the position here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Schmo tries to control but Gotts wriggling away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Joe Schmo just wasn't active enough.
Gotts works Schmo's body with a nice hook.
Gotts getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Stu Gotts seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Schmo shoots in looking for a takedown. Gotts tries to sprawl out of it but Schmo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gotts manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gotts getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Schmo misses with a wild combination.
Gotts tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Schmo paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Gotts scores with a jab to the head.
Gotts lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Schmo shoots in and drives through. Gotts sprawls well.
Gotts lands with an overhand left.
Schmo looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Schmo is breathing heavily.
Schmo keeps the fight on the outside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Schmo dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Gotts looks to clinch

and Schmo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Gotts makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Gotts lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Schmo backwards.

Schmo has Gotts pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Schmo pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Gotts tumbling to the mat - Schmo dives into Gotts's guard.
Gotts keeping moving, preventing Schmo from controlling successfully.
Schmo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Schmo pushes down on Gotts's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Schmo is taking a breather. Gotts says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Schmo wants to pass the guard but Gotts is defending well.
Gotts is trying to stand.

Schmo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gotts trying to hold on to Schmo's head to control him but Schmo postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Schmo decides to return to a standing position.
Schmo could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Gotts lands a right hook to the body.
Gotts closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Gotts is looking to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Schmo takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Joe Schmo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Schmo moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
A right-left combo lands from Gotts.
Schmo takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Gotts moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Gotts throws out a powerful jab.
Donk. Gotts catches Schmo right on the button with a cross.
Schmo drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Schmo walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.


Schmo is rocked!
Gotts ducks down and throws a big overhand right - it lands flush on the jaw, knocking Schmo out cold! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Stu Gotts!
