PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Da Mian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Strikes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Da Mian!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 1, fighting out of London, Carlos Strikes!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mian shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Strikes is trying to defend but Mian finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Mian takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Strikes manages to get to full guard.
Mian controlling from the top position.
Mian in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Mian has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Strikes not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mian throwing strikes from guard but Strikes blocks nicely.

Strikes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mian. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mian seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Strikes for as long as he can get away with.
Mian is looking to work some ground and pound but Strikes has wrist control.

Mian looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Strikes has picked Mian up and slammed him! Mian can't keep hold of the triangle and Strikes manages to pass to side control!

Mian has a closed guard, preventing Strikes from standing up.
Mian keeping moving, preventing Strikes from controlling successfully.

Strikes stopping the sweep attempt from Mian.

Mian looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Strikes trying to control the position from guard on top but Mian is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mian looking to hit a scissor sweep but Strikes is one step ahead there.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Carlos Strikes was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Strikes tries to clinch but fails miserably

so Mian counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Mian postures up.
Mian missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Strikes throws a head kick but Mian moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Da Mian dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Excellent takedown into side control there by Mian.
Strikes gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Mian has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Strikes's face.
Strikes wants to control but Mian is having none of it.
Mian fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Mian lands with some strikes.

Mian goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Strikes turns into him and now he's in Mian's guard.
Mian might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Strikes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Mian wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Strikes is now in half guard.
Mian is pressing down on Strikes's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Strikes trying to control but Mian is working from the bottom.

Mian has his foot on Strikes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Strikes works his way back into a safe position though.
Strikes is looking to advance position but Mian has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Mian wants to finish this one by submission but Strikes is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mian.

Strikes really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Strikes really wants to buck Mian off and get back to his feet.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Strikes is refusing to be controlled, as Mian sits in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Da Mian dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Strikes closes the distance looking to clinch

and Mian counters with a single leg into guard. Strikes didn't expect that.

Mian is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Strikes is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Strikes has escaped and now he's on top!
Strikes wants to control from the top but Mian keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Strikes wants to stand but Mian is controlling his posture from full guard.

Strikes wants to pass the guard but Mian is keeping the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mian is on top in guard.
Mian trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Strikes wants to stand but Mian is controlling the position.
Mian stands and throws Strikes's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Mian wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Strikes, who protects the arm well.

Strikes tries to escape but Mian is in control.
Mian advances to full mount.
Strikes tries to hold on but Mian pushes him away.
Strikes is squirming around, avoiding Mian's attempts to control the action.
Strikes wants to control but Mian is having none of it.

It looks like Carlos Strikes has been cut.
Mian connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Mian landing punches.
Strikes is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Mian jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Strikes is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Strikes and Mian has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Mian wants to lay and pray for a moment but Strikes keeps working.

Mian passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Strikes!
Carlos Strikes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Mian is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Strikes has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Strikes!
Da Mian is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mian is adopting a defensive guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Da Mian showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Mian has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
