Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takahatsu Honda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Penn comes to the cage accompanied by Hawaii pride. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Takahatsu Honda!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Honda gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Penn engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Penn passes Honda's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Penn trying to pass the guard but Honda defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Penn seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of BJ Penn.
Honda throws a combination that misses

and Penn counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Penn showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Penn tries to free his leg and advance position but Honda is retaining full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. BJ Penn wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Honda bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Penn's head.
Honda uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Penn has time to react.
Honda slaps away a takedown attempt from Penn, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Honda clobbers Penn with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Penn moves out of range of the body kick from Honda.
Takahatsu Honda is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Nice body kick there by Honda.
Honda scores with a jab to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Honda darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
A punch lands to the side of Penn 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Penn avoids the head kick by Honda.
Penn tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Honda paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Penn closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Penn gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Penn is breathing heavily.
Honda connects with a right hand. Penn shakes it off.
Penn takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Penn throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Honda's waist but Honda gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Penn off to one side.
Penn tries to score a power double leg takedown but Honda sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Penn somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for BJ Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Honda throws a quick inside leg kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Honda throws a one two combo.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Honda. Penn shrugs it off though.
Honda throws a leg kick which misses Penn's front leg but catches the back leg as Penn tries to avoid it.
Honda shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Penn eats them both and turns towards Honda to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Honda looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Honda cracks a nice hook into Penn's ribs.
Honda throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Penn on the side of the head.
Penn looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Penn's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Honda connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Penn scrambles back to his feet.
Honda throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Honda throws a nice outside leg kick.
Honda scores with a nice right hand.
Penn tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Honda lands a nice looking kick to the body. Penn takes a step back to recover.
Honda scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Sloppy strikes from Honda. Those never looked like landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that BJ Penn will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Penn tries to clinch up but Honda circles away and keeps his distance.
Penn takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Honda lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Penn on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Takahatsu Honda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Penn walks into a jab.
Penn shoots in for a double leg but Honda sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Penn misses with a leg kick.
Honda lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Honda scores with a jab to the head.
Penn tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Honda throws a head kick that misses.
Honda uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Penn has time to react.

BJ Penn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Penn has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Honda finds it's way round the side to connect with Penn's head.
Honda delivers a nice body kick.
Horrible takedown by Penn or perhaps it was just good defense by Honda which made him look bad.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Honda scores with a head kick. Penn tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Honda lands a jab.
Honda scores with a jab.
Honda stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Honda throws a head kick but Penn moves out of range.
Honda scores with a shot to the body.
Honda lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Honda lands with an uppercut that bounces Penn off the cage and back into rage.
Penn takes a kick to the side of the head.
Honda connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Honda dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Honda cracks Penn with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Honda lands a body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Honda lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Honda throws a quick inside leg kick.
Honda connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Penn momentarily.
Penn takes one on the button.
Nice uppercut lands for Honda. That snapped Penn's head back.
Honda buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Penn crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Honda - the referee stops the clock and Penn gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Honda. Penn manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Honda connects with an inside leg kick.
Honda lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Penn looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Honda, right into the meat.
Takahatsu Honda seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Penn moves forwards but Honda connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Honda throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Penn's head.
Penn is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Honda lands a glancing blow to the side of Penn's head.
Honda fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Penn has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Honda lands a slapping body shot.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Left hook, right uppercut from Honda.
Penn has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Honda tests Penn's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Honda connects with a solid leg kick.
Honda throws a sloppy head kick and Penn moves out of range easily.
Penn takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Honda's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Honda duly obliges.


Penn is rocked!
Penn takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Oh Penn is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Honda lands a nice shot that snaps Penn's head back.
Honda lands with a jab that stuns his opponent. Penn is looking to close the distance but Honda sees it coming and throws a beautiful knee! Penn crumbles to the mat and that's all she wrote! Let's hope Penn is OK because that was naaaaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Knee). Takahatsu Honda!
