PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ruffuss Passat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Esteban Vega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Passat comes to the cage accompanied by looser by Beck. Esteban Vega will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ruffuss Passat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Esteban Vega!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shigeki Fujiwara and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vega shoots for a takedown but Passat saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Passat fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Vega sprawls well initially but Passat persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Vega scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Passat manages to mount him!
Passat wants to control the pace but Vega is squirming around nicely.
Passat avoids the attempt from Vega to control.

Vega's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Vega is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Passat lands a nice shot to the head.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Poor strikes thrown by Passat there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Passat can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Vega is looking to escape.

Vega changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Vega throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Passat's waist but Passat gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Vega off to one side.
Passat avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Vega goes for a takedown in the clinch but Passat prevents it.

Passat misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Vega.

Passat has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Vega is working away from the top position though.

Passat has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Passat is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Vega is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Esteban Vega showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, if Vega is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Esteban Vega comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Vega has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
