The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malik wants to clinch
and Kanemoto cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Malik wants to clinch but Kanemoto slips to the side
and Kanemoto counters with a straight right hand.
Malik jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Malik looks to clinch
letting Kanemoto counter with a right hand.
Malik lets loose with a powerful body kick. Kanemoto will feel that in the morning.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kanemoto is defended easily by Malik.

and Kanemoto counters with a nice double leg into side control. Malik won't be happy with that.

Malik is pushing Kanemoto's head away, looking to escape. Kanemoto manages to hold on to the position though.

Kanemoto wants to control for a moment but Malik uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Kanemoto working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Malik's thigh. Malik counters though and makes it back to full guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Malik can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kanemoto trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Malik wants to stand up but Kanemoto is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kanemoto fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Malik is looking to stand up but Kanemoto won't let him.

Malik wants to stand but Kanemoto is controlling his posture from full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kanemoto has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Malik wants to stand and escape but instead Kanemoto has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Kanemoto looking to sit in guard and control but Malik gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

A close round but Waleed Malik will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Malik escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Malik! Kanemoto is out on his feet! Malik rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Kanemoto is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Kanemoto is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.
