Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Robert Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rusimar Palhares! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson throws a solid leg kick but Palhares takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Johnson. Palhares tries to clinch and Johnson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Palhares's guard now. Johnson could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Johnson postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Johnson is pushing down on Palhares's leg trying to pass to half guard. Palhares is fighting to maintain full guard but Johnson has managed to sneak the leg through. Johnson content to control rather than advance. Johnson sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Palhares defending well though. Johnson throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Johnson with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Johnson working the head and body with strikes. This has been an exciting period of action! Johnson works his way into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson controlling the position. Johnson tries to score with some ground and pound. Palhares controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. The ground and pound from Johnson seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Johnson moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Johnson is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Palhares is trying to escape and Johnson transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Palhares is forced to tap! Nice work there by Johnson! Very nice indeed!
