PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phantom Menace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leo Clarke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Menace comes to the cage accompanied by Leroy Brown. Phantom Menace could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Leo Clarke's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 1, fighting out of New York, Phantom Menace!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Leo Clarke!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Bruno Lombardi and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Menace moves out of range as Clarke strikes.
Phantom Menace seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Clarke misses the shot to the body.
Menace misses the jab.
Menace waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Clarke.
Nice defenses there by Clarke.
Menace on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Clarke misses with a low kick.
Clarke throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Clarke drops his hands momentarily and Menace takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Clarke keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

and Menace counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Menace misses with a kick to the body.
Clarke tries to score a power double leg takedown but Menace sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Clarke somewhat.

Menace shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Menace showed some decent athleticism there.

Menace throwing shots but Clarke is blocking nicely.
Clarke keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Clarke is looking to control Menace's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Clarke avoid being mounted?
Menace has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Clarke has hold of Menace's hands but Menace slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Clarke regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Menace.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Menace accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Menace looking to sit in guard and control but Clarke gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Clarke avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Menace trying to keep a closed guard but Clarke is proving a slippery customer.

Menace is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Clarke wants to control from the top but Menace keeps moving.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Clarke might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Menace kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Menace is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Clarke is aware though and is defending well.

and Clarke counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Menace throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Menace lands a jab.
Clarke avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Menace doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Clarke counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Clarke trying to control the action but Menace is working from the bottom.
Menace wants to control but Clarke is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Clarke passes the guard and advances to mount!
Menace tries to reverse the position but Clarke maintains control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Menace wants to control but Clarke is having none of it.
Menace is squirming around, avoiding Clarke's attempts to control the action.

Clarke lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Clarke can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Menace is looking to escape.
Menace really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Clarke postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Menace looks a forlorn figure.

Menace is trying desperately to improve position.
Menace is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Clarke landing strikes, looking to finish!
Menace is looking to get to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Clarke can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Menace is looking to escape.

Clarke jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Menace manages to avoid the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leo Clarke showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

and Clarke makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Clarke throws a low kick but Menace moves out of range easily.
Menace's jab looks to have found its range, popping Clarke under the eye.

and Menace cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Menace throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Menace slips a jab from Clarke.
A big left from Clarke misses.
Menace blocks a leg kick.
A lazy left from Menace finds it's target.
Clarke throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Menace misses with an uppercut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

and Clarke counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Clarke stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Menace swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Menace stands and throws Clarke's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Check out the look on Menace's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Clarke tries to control but Menace manages to take his back.
Clarke breaks Menace's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Menace is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Menace is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Menace working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Clarke is looking to control Menace's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Clarke avoid being mounted?

Clarke is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Menace lands with a punch from half guard.
Menace seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Clarke moves into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Menace postures up.
Menace working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Clarke kicks Menace off and gets to his feet.
Clarke keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Clarke tries to score a power double leg takedown but Menace sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Clarke somewhat.
Menace misses the body punch

so Clarke counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Phantom Menace.
I think Menace has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
