Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Oliver Cornell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Max Vermillion! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Eddie Farnsworth and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cornell looking for a takedown here - he's got it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cornell avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Cornell throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Vermillion works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Cornell distracts Vermillion with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Vermillion trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Cornell keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Vermillion's head. Cornell landing some decent shots from guard. Cornell throwing strikes but missing. Vermillion is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Vermillion is looking for a triangle here but Cornell uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Vermillion takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cornell lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Vermillion down.
Vermillion manages to work his way to half guard, despite Cornell's best efforts. Vermillion is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Vermillion looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Cornell throwing shots but Vermillion is blocking nicely. Vermillion looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Vermillion looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Vermillion looks gassed! Cornell looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Cornell slips a nice elbow through Vermillion's hands, connecting with Vermillion's forehead. Nice strikes from Cornell there. Cornell working the head and body with strikes.
Vermillion is rocked! Cornell scoring with strikes to the body and head. Vermillion is still in real trouble! Can Cornell finish him? Vermillion is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cornell lands strikes from half guard. Cornell looks to score some points with some ground and pound. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Vermillion taking some punishment here, with Cornell in his half guard. Cornell is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Cornell lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Vermillion quite badly. Vermillion pulls Cornell in close trying to recover. Cornell postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Vermillion on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Vermillion doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
