PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jin San (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyoto Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). San comes to the cage accompanied by Voices. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jin San!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lyoto Evans!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Evans moves into the clinch.
Evans working San over with knees to the body.
Evans lands a body punch in the clinch.
San gets underhooks to prevent Evans's takedown attempt.
Evans drops down looking for an ankle pick but San pulls his leg out and moves away.
Evans tries to close the distance and clinch but San swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Evans throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
San tries to clinch there but Evans circles away.

San gets a clinch.
Evans is looking to break free of the clinch but San has double underhooks.
Evans looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Evans has had enough of the clinch but San keeps him there for the moment.
San is trying to break free.
San tries to break the clinch but Evans is controlling the position.
Evans tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

San breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Evans fails with an attempt to clinch.
Evans misses with a takedown attempt

and San counters with a takedown into side control.
Jin San has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lyoto Evans.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Evans tries to bench press San off him but San keeps the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

San tries to advance position but instead Evans slips a leg back in to half guard.
Evans trying to control but San postures up.
San sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Evans is looking to control San's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Evans avoid being mounted?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

San is working for a kimura but Evans is defending it quite comfortably.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Evans is looking to improve his position.
Evans blocking the ground and pound attempt from San.
San keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
San thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Evans's head.

San controlling the action here.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jin San wasn't doing enough on the ground.

San looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
San not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
San prevents Evans from getting back to his feet.

Evans is trying to keep San in close.
Evans looks gassed!

Evans is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
San stays in close to Evans's body and controls the position.
San pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Evans is keeping the position for now.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Evans is working an open guard so San takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
San misses with a double jab
and Evans counters with a flying knee. Nice.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jin San dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



San moves into range and clinches up with Evans.

San turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

San tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
San taking a breather here.

San looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
San throwing shots but missing, from side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
San is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Evans will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Evans is looking to regain half guard here but San keeps moving and retains side control.
Evans can't do much from the bottom here.

San working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
San happy to just control the position for now.
San really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

San decides to stand up, so the ref orders Evans to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

San gets a takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Evans is trying to control but can't.
Evans is not content to let San control the position.
San uses his free foot to push down on Evans's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Evans.
Evans tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Evans is trying to stand.
Jin San overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The referee warns Evans that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
San controlling from mount.
San's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
San landing strikes, looking to finish!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jin San dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Evans gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and San holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
A short right from San on the inside.
Evans is trying to push San away but San has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Evans has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Evans misses with a short punch on the inside.
Evans can't find room to land a body shot as San controls the action.

San pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

San has closed the distance and engaged Evans in a clinch.
San managing to block the knees to the body from Evans.
A short left from San.

San pulls Evans into guard.
Evans trying to control the position from guard on top but San is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

San working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Evans doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Evans manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
San looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Evans takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Evans trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
San preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Evans wants to pass the guard but San is keeping the position.

San manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
San sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Evans takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
San with shots to the head and body - Evans looks very uncomfortable down there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
San lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Evans is in all sorts of trouble here.
San will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
San controlling his opponent.

Jin San showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for San, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
