PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Ochoa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hugo Martinez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carlos Ochoa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hugo Martinez!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Dean Styles and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martinez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ochoa's waist but Ochoa gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Martinez off to one side.
Martinez takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Ochoa leaves Martinez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Martinez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ochoa pinned against the cage. Ochoa gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Carlos Ochoa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hugo Martinez.
Ochoa tests Martinez's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Ochoa works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Ochoa swings away with a body shot that misses

and Martinez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Martinez is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Martinez's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Hugo Martinez has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Ochoa pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Martinez dives in and grabs Ochoa's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ochoa pushes down on Martinez's head and hops out.

and Martinez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ochoa won't be happy with that.

Ochoa is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Martinez's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Ochoa is desperately trying to improve his position but Martinez has a good base and remains in mount.

Martinez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Martinez lands in his opponent's guard.

Martinez is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Hugo Martinez was stalling too much, according to the referee.

and Martinez counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Martinez.
Ochoa pulls Martinez in close to his closed guard and prevents Martinez from doing any damage or advancing position.

and Martinez counters with a takedown into side control.

Martinez is staying tight to Ochoa's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Martinez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ochoa keeps working.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Martinez staying calm.
Ochoa tries to escape but Martinez is in control.

Hugo Martinez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Ochoa stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ochoa wants it to stay on the feet.
Martinez moves out of range as Ochoa strikes.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Hugo Martinez hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

and Martinez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ochoa won't be happy with that.
Martinez is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

A looping hook to the body misses from Ochoa. Martinez does a little dance to reset his feet.
Ochoa comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Hugo Martinez is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ochoa enables Martinez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ochoa manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Martinez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hugo Martinez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Martinez winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
