PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Penn comes to the cage accompanied by Hawaii pride. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A left lands for Lee.
Lee waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Penn.
Lee tries to bum rush Penn with a series of wild strikes but Penn uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
The fight stays on the outside here - Penn looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Penn throws a left and a right that both miss
and Lee cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Penn closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Penn uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Lee.
Penn shoots in looking for a takedown but Lee manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Penn's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Lee misses with an uppercut. Penn saw that one coming.
Penn fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lee avoids it really well and circles away.
Lee scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lee lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Lee leaves Penn with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Lee lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Lee wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Penn. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Penn might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far.

Lee goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Lee comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Penn shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lee but Lee pushes him off and we're back to square one.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bruce Lee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Lee scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Penn looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Penn has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Lee finds it's way round the side to connect with Penn's head.
Lee stuffs the takedown attempt from Penn. Penn gets slowly back to his feet.
Penn takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Penn scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Penn stalling away here and it's allowed Lee to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Penn throws and elbow that misses. Lee uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Penn's guard. Nice move by Lee!

Lee decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Penn, up you get!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Penn is defended easily by Lee.

Penn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Lee manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Lee wants to get back to his feet but Penn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Penn would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

I've got Lee winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
