0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cain Insane! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hughes tries for a takedown but Insane circles away easily and Insane cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. No luck with that takedown attempt from Insane. Insane looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Hughes misses with a double jab
and Insane makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Hughes decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Insane taking some punishment here, with Hughes in his half guard. Hughes looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Hughes missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Hughes not doing much here.
Hughes is looking for a kimura but Insane is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hughes to get the leverage. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Hughes working Insane over with strikes. Insane is trying to stand up here but Hughes is controlling him well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hughes is looking to take a break and control but Insane is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hughes in particular looking to stall. Insane is refusing to be controlled, as Hughes sits in half guard. Insane trying to control from the bottom.
Hughes is controlling the pace.
We're going to have a standup here because Matt Hughes wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Insane closes the distance and clinches. Hughes is working for takedown but Insane is calmly controlling the position for now. Hughes tries for a takedown. No joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Hughes. That's going to take a lot out of him. Insane wants a takedown but no success here.
Hughes has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Insane is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Hughes is breathing heavily. Insane has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Hughes jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Insane walks away with a smile on his face. Hughes gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Insane shoots in and drives through. Hughes sprawls well. Insane shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hughes defends it nicely. Insane rushes Hughes and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Hughes drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Insane wants to break free but Hughes has control.
Insane jumps guard but Hughes stands there with Insane around his waist. Insane gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Insane looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Insane wants a takedown.
Hughes wants a takedown.
Hughes tries for a takedown. No joy.
Insane can't get the takedown.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Insane wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Hughes has him pressed against the cage. Hughes tries to pull guard but Insane won't allow it.
Hughes pulls Insane into guard.
Hughes on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hughes tries to get out of the position. Hughes pushes a forearm under Insane's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Insane is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
