Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Don Geronimo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryan Gracie! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Felipe Paraventi and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie falls off balance throwing a combination
and Geronimo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Gracie throws a head kick that misses and Geronimo counters with a straight right hand. A low kick from Gracie misses and Gracie takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Gracie misses with the body kick and Geronimo counters with a lovely straight right hand! Gracie throws a leg kick that is checked and Geronimo counters with a straight right hand. Gracie throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Geronimo stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Gracie throws a predictable looking body shot
and Geronimo counters with a straight right hand. Gracie throws a head kick that misses letting Geronimo counter with a right hand. Gracie throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Gracie takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Geronimo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gracie to the mat! Gracie manages to get full guard. Gracie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Geronimo defends well. Geronimo wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Geronimo is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Gracie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Geronimo cracks Gracie with a solid left hand. Geronimo drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Gracie dives on top into guard. Geronimo is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Geronimo has clasped his hands together around Gracie's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Geronimo landing strikes. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Geronimo has hold of Gracie's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Gracie tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Geronimo cranks the arm and Gracie screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Gracie, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:01 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Don Geronimo!
