Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Oliver Cornell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Oliver Cornell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rob Smith!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Steve Montenegro and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith gets caught flat footed, as Cornell shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Smith looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cornell is one step ahead there.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cornell accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Cornell makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Cornell distracts Smith with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Cornell slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Cornell won't allow Smith to sweep him here.
Cornell postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Cornell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

We're going to have a standup here because Oliver Cornell wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Smith throws a sloppy body shot
and Cornell counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Cornell wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Rob Smith wasn't active enough on the ground.

Cornell slips a nice elbow through Smith's hands, connecting with Smith's forehead.

Cornell perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Smith has hold of Cornell's hands but Cornell slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Smith is rocked!
Cornell seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Smith is still in real trouble! Can Cornell finish him?
Cornell looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Smith with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Smith seems to have recovered his senses.
Cornell controlling the action here.
Cornell is thwarting Smith's attempts to control the position.
Cornell takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Smith is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Cornell scores with a couple of nice shots.

Cornell is nestled in close to Smith, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Cornell is trying to control. Smith wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Cornell thows a huge punch but Smith dodges it nicely.

and Cornell decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Smith's guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cornell feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Smith is trying to control Cornell's posture but Cornell avoids it.

Well Cornell has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
