Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gichin Funakoshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Katsunori Kikuno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Funakoshi comes to the cage accompanied by Martial Art Drum Beat. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gichin Funakoshi! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Katsunori Kikuno! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kikuno wants to clinch letting Funakoshi counter with a right hand. Funakoshi misses the body punch and Kikuno counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Kikuno. Funakoshi blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Kikuno prevents a takedown attempt there.
Kikuno is pressed up against the cage. Funakoshi has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kikuno down to the mat. Kikuno avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Kikuno darts in trying to clinch and Funakoshi counters with a right hand to the body. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Horrible takedown by Funakoshi or perhaps it was just good defense by Kikuno which made him look bad. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gichin Funakoshi. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kikuno ducks right into an uppercut from Funakoshi. Funakoshi changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. A looping hook to the body misses from Funakoshi. Kikuno does a little dance to reset his feet. Kikuno moves to clinch but Funakoshi breaks away and Funakoshi counters with a straight right hand. Funakoshi keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Kikuno tries to clinch and Funakoshi counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Kikuno is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Funakoshi wants to control from the top but Kikuno keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Funakoshi with a nice head shot there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Funakoshi drops back looking for a leg! Kikuno is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kikuno manages to kick Funakoshi off! Funakoshi jumps back into Kikuno's guard. Funakoshi trying to control but Kikuno is working from the bottom. Funakoshi drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Funakoshi seems to have locked his on tight now - Kikuno screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Funakoshi, as he picks up the win!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:01 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Gichin Funakoshi! Gichin Funakoshi retains his lightweight title!
