Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sam Lauzon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin McFreedies (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sam Lauzon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Justin McFreedies!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Hugh Johnson and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lauzon with a poor takedown
and McFreedies counters with a stiff right hand.

Lauzon gets tackled into the cage by McFreedies. McFreedies maintains the clinch.

McFreedies breaks from the clinch.
Lauzon misses with a shot to the body

and McFreedies moves into the clinch.

McFreedies breaks from the clinch.
McFreedies moves in looking to clinch but Lauzon pushes him off.

Lauzon bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
McFreedies stops Lauzon from passing to mount.
McFreedies wants to get back to his feet.

Lauzon decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Lauzon throws a sloppy head kick

and McFreedies counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Lauzon is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Lauzon wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

McFreedies pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
McFreedies is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

McFreedies gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

McFreedies's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Lauzon throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and McFreedies counters by moving into the clinch.
McFreedies slowing the pace effectively.
McFreedies with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Lauzon drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Lauzon looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? McFreedies is fending him off so far but Lauzon persists. Nope, McFreedies circles away and we're back to standing.
McFreedies moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Lauzon closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. McFreedies quickly recovers to half guard.
Lauzon tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Lauzon content to control rather than advance.

Lauzon is looking to advance position but McFreedies won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McFreedies wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sam Lauzon will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Lauzon misses with a jab to the body

and McFreedies moves into the clinch.
Lauzon tries for a takedown. No joy.

Lauzon gets control of McFreedies's arms and successfully pulls guard. Lauzon will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Lauzon wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and McFreedies is now in half guard.
It looks like McFreedies is going to stand back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lauzon has one foot on McFreedies's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

and McFreedies counters with a head kick. That will keep Lauzon thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

McFreedies tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Lauzon manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A looping hook to the body misses from Lauzon. McFreedies does a little dance to reset his feet.
Sam Lauzon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Lauzon.

Lauzon working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McFreedies sneaks out the side door and pushes Lauzon away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Lauzon misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
McFreedies tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Sam Lauzon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
McFreedies tries to close the distance and clinch but Lauzon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A low kick from Lauzon is predictable there

and McFreedies counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by McFreedies.
McFreedies scores with a knee to the head.

Lauzon is looking for a takedown up against the cage. McFreedies gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
A right hook to the body lands for McFreedies.
McFreedies stalls.

McFreedies pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
McFreedies tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lauzon paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Lauzon throws a lazy uppercut

and McFreedies moves into the clinch.

McFreedies breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lauzon takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Lauzon fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sam Lauzon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lauzon throws a lazy body kick

and McFreedies holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

McFreedies breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Lauzon misses with a double jab

and McFreedies counters by moving into the clinch.
McFreedies tries a knee to the head but Lauzon blocks it.
Lauzon has McFreedies pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. McFreedies manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
McFreedies prevents the takedown attempt.

McFreedies pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Horrible takedown by Lauzon or perhaps it was just good defense by McFreedies which made him look bad.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Justin McFreedies showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


McFreedies plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
McFreedies fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Lauzon has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Lauzon throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and McFreedies makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
No luck for Lauzon with that takedown attempt.

A short body shot lands from McFreedies as the two fighters clinch.

Lauzon goes for a takedown attempt but McFreedies pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Lauzon is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

McFreedies breaks the clinch.

McFreedies darts in and clinches Lauzon up against the cage.

McFreedies breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

McFreedies moves into range and clinches up with Lauzon.

McFreedies's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Lauzon misses with a combination
and McFreedies counters with a slapping leg kick.

McFreedies lands a head kick!
McFreedies connects with a solid leg kick.
McFreedies lands with a kick to the temple. Lauzon shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

McFreedies darts in and clinches Lauzon up against the cage.
Lauzon fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Lauzon tries to score a body lock takedown but McFreedies shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
McFreedies utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
Justin McFreedies comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think McFreedies has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
