PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kisuke Urahara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Royce Cherubin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kisuke Urahara!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Royce Cherubin!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Hugh Johnson and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Urahara closes the distance and pushes Cherubin back into the cage.

Cherubin works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Urahara is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Cherubin is stalling in the full guard.
Cherubin won't allow Urahara to get back to his feet.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Cherubin trying to stand up but can't free himself from Urahara's guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Royce Cherubin wasn't active enough on the ground.
Urahara doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Cherubin counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Cherubin changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Urahara looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Cherubin stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Urahara tries to close the distance and clinch but Cherubin swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Cherubin counters with a nice double leg into side control. Urahara won't be happy with that.
Cherubin is looking to take a break and control but Urahara is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

You can see the frustration on Urahara's face as Cherubin controls the position.

Cherubin decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Cherubin needs to keep his hands up - Urahara had a free shot at his head there.
Urahara tries to clinch but Cherubin moves out of range.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Cherubin.
Urahara prevents Cherubin from moving into mount.

Urahara manages to work his way to half guard, despite Cherubin's best efforts.
Cherubin wants to pass the guard but Urahara is defending well.

Urahara is looking to control Cherubin's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Urahara avoid being mounted?
Cherubin is just content to waste time from the top position. Urahara takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Cherubin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Urahara swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Cherubin counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Cherubin.
Urahara is controlling Cherubin's posture.
Cherubin tries to free his leg and advance position but Urahara is retaining full guard.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Royce Cherubin has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Urahara shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Cherubin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Urahara wants to control from the top but Cherubin keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We're going to have a standup here because Kisuke Urahara wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Urahara shoots and misses

so Cherubin counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Royce Cherubin has got the better of the ground game so far.

Cherubin decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cherubin stuffs the takedown attempt from Urahara. Urahara gets slowly back to his feet.

Cherubin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Urahara is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Royce Cherubin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

and Urahara counters with a nice low kick that buckles Cherubin's knee momentarily.

Cherubin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Urahara swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cherubin passes Urahara's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Cherubin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Cherubin tries to stand but can't do so whilst Urahara controls his leg.
Urahara gets back to full guard.
Urahara manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cherubin manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Urahara is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Urahara lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Urahara would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Cherubin is trying to control the position from the bottom.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Kisuke Urahara has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Urahara rushes Cherubin and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Cherubin manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

I would just about give that final round to Royce Cherubin.
