Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gomer Pyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Veli Pirinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pyle comes to the cage accompanied by The Marines' Hymn. Veli Pirinen has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Veli Pirinen!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Arvi Lind and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pirinen tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Pyle is able to avoid easily.
Pirinen throws a head kick that misses.
A slapping leg kick lands for Pirinen.
Pirinen tries for a takedown but Pyle circles away easily
enabling Pyle to counter with a crisp jab.
Pirinen throws a shot from downtown. Pyle moves away and avoids it.
Pyle moves to clinch but Pirinen breaks away
and Pirinen counters with a head kick.
Pyle shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Pirinen defends it nicely.
Pyle misses with a lunging right hand
and Pirinen counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Pyle tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pirinen paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Pirinen swats away the attempt to clinch by Pyle.

Pirinen lands a head kick. Pyle smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Pirinen lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Pyle has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Pyle and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

so Pyle counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Pirinen looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pirinen tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Pyle drops back looking for a leg! Pirinen is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Pirinen manages to kick Pyle off! Pyle jumps back into Pirinen's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pirinen is on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Pyle is looking for a triangle but Pirinen pushes his legs off easily.
Pyle wants to hit a switch here but Pirinen passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Pyle there!
Pyle is desperately trying to improve his position but Pirinen has a good base and remains in mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Pirinen looking to secure an arm triangle but Pyle defends it well.
Pirinen with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Pyle closes the distance but Pirinen moves to the side
and Pirinen counters with a head kick.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Pirinen.
Pyle misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Pirinen lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

and Pyle counters with a takedown into side control.

Pyle tries to score with some ground and pound. Pirinen controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Pyle working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Pirinen manages to work his way to half guard, despite Pyle's best efforts.

Pyle seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pirinen does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Pyle escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pirinen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Pirinen thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Pyle throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Pirinen tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Pyle is in Pirinen's guard.
