Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ray Monsoon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Sawyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ray Monsoon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tom Sawyer!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sawyer showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Monsoon.
Sawyer feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Monsoons jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Monsoon is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sawyer sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Sawyer explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Sawyer throws a leg kick which misses Monsoon's front leg but catches the back leg as Monsoon tries to avoid it.
Sawyer tries for a takedown but Monsoon circles away easily

and Monsoon counters with a shoot takedown. Sawyer fights it but they end up in guard.
Monsoon is breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Monsoon stopping the sweep attempt from Sawyer.
Sawyer has Monsoon pulled in close to control his posture.
Monsoon trying to control but Sawyer is working from the bottom.
Monsoon throwing strikes from guard but Sawyer blocks nicely.

Monsoon postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Sawyer lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Monsoon!
Monsoon is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Sawyer trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Sawyer postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Monsoon looks a forlorn figure.
Monsoon regains half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Monsoon wants to improve his position but Sawyer is controlling well.

Sawyer looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Monsoon with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Sawyer thows a huge punch but Monsoon dodges it nicely.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sawyer lands a nice short elbow.

Sawyer is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Sawyer throwing shots but Monsoon is blocking nicely.
Monsoon has hold of Sawyer's hands but Sawyer slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Sawyer is looking to pass Monsoon's guard but actually Monsoon recovers to full guard.

Sawyer wants to control from the top but Monsoon keeps moving.
Sawyer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Monsoon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sawyer slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Sawyer scores with a couple of short elbows.

Sawyer thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Monsoon sneaks back into half guard.
Monsoon has hold of Sawyer's hands but Sawyer slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Monsoon kicks off Sawyer and gets to his feet.
Sawyer tries to clinch but Monsoon is having none of it.
Sawyer is looking to clinch but Monsoon is avoiding it.
Sawyer lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Sawyer drops Monsoon with a nice combination! Sawyer dives into Monsoon's guard, looking to finish!


Monsoon is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sawyer wants to control from the top but Monsoon keeps moving.
Oh Monsoon is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sawyer with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Monsoon wants to get back to his feet but Sawyer is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Monsoon seems to have got his legs back now.
Sawyer slips nicely into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sawyer throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Sawyer dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Monsoon will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Sawyer fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sawyer moves in looking to clinch but Monsoon pushes him off.

so Monsoon counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Monsoon dodges the punch combination from Sawyer.
Tom Sawyer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sawyer lands a head kick!
Sawyer fails to land with a series of punches.

Monsoon leaves Sawyer with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Monsoon moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Tom Sawyer has been cut.

and Monsoon counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Monsoon wants to control from the top but Sawyer keeps moving.
Monsoon won't allow Sawyer to sweep him here.
Sawyer is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Monsoon is desperately trying to improve his position but Sawyer has a good base and remains in mount.

Monsoon tries to lock up and control but Sawyer gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Ray Monsoon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sawyer is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Sawyer uses his free foot to push down on Monsoon's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Monsoon.

Ray Monsoon dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Tom Sawyer's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Sawyer lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Sawyer dodges the punch combination from Monsoon.
Sawyer looks to score with a jab to the body but Monsoon is just out of range.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sawyer is defended easily by Monsoon.
Sawyer throws a head kick that Monsoon semi-blocks.
Sawyer tries for a takedown but Monsoon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Sawyer moves in looking to clinch but Monsoon pushes him off.
Sawyer throws a left and a right that both miss

and Monsoon counters with a takedown into side control.
Monsoon sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Sawyer is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sawyer manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Monsoon thows a huge punch but Sawyer dodges it nicely.
Monsoon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sawyer keeps working.

Monsoon is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sawyer is just riding it out for now. Monsoon eventually gives up the hold.
Monsoon is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Monsoon misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Sawyer wants to control but Monsoon is having none of it.
Sawyer tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Poor strikes thrown by Monsoon there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Monsoon has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Monsoon throwing strikes here but Sawyer is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Sawyer is wriggling around trying to escape.
Monsoon raining down hammerfists from mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Monsoon cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
BOOM! Monsoon connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Monsoon throws a wild left hand from mount and Sawyer manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.
Monsoon trying to advance position but Sawyer counters by regaining guard.
Monsoon postures up in Sawyer's guard and throws a big left but Sawyer blocks it.

Monsoon thows a big elbow that misses.
Sawyer is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Monsoon is controlling him.
Monsoon in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Monsoon working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Sawyer tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Monsoon is looking to work some ground and pound but Sawyer has wrist control.
Monsoon lands a couple of elbows.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ray Monsoon showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Monsoon has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
