PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rocky Baculpo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Colman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baculpo's entrance music is Mosh. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rocky Baculpo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Colman!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, George Francis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baculpo shoots and misses
and Colman counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Baculpo with a poor takedown
and Colman counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Baculpo has his takedown stuffed
and Colman counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rocky Baculpo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Baculpo tries to sprawl but Colman drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Colman is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Colman wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Baculpo uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Baculpo seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Colman chips away with some ground and pound.
Colman tries to stand but Baculpo is controlling from the bottom.
Baculpo seems keen to control Colman's posture.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

We're going to have a standup here because Rocky Baculpo wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Baculpo staying out of range there.
Baculpo shoots and misses

and Colman moves into the clinch.
Colman prevents a takedown attempt there.
Colman working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.

Colman is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Baculpo can't fight it off and eventually Colman manages to take the fight to the floor. Baculpo looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Colman wants to control from the top but Baculpo keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Colman being controlled here momentarily.

Mark Colman has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Baculpo has his takedown stuffed
and Colman counters with a slapping leg kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Colman scores with a takedown into Baculpo's guard.
Baculpo controlling the position.
Baculpo is breathing heavily.
Baculpo keeping moving, preventing Colman from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mark Colman was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Baculpo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Colman counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Colman.

Colman has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Baculpo clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Baculpo trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Colman dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Baculpo fails with the takedown

and Colman counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
It looks like Colman is going to stand back up.

Colman is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Baculpo as he works his way to full guard.
Colman wants to stand and escape but instead Baculpo has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Baculpo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Colman is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Colman wants to stand up but Baculpo is controlling him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Colman working a defensive guard but Baculpo passes into half guard.

Baculpo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Colman defends it well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Baculpo has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Colman defend it? Baculpo steps over the head and cranks it - Colman is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Baculpo!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Rocky Baculpo!
