Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Griffin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jake Thomas! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Griffin scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Thomas doesn't seem bothered though. Griffin throws a leg kick which misses Thomas's front leg but catches the back leg as Thomas tries to avoid it. Some bone on bone action there as Thomas checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Griffin throws a solid leg kick but Thomas takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Griffin. Jab from Griffin. Griffin changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Thomas looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Griffin working away. Griffin controlling the position from side mount. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Thomas is looking for a sweep. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Griffin tries to move into full mount but can't pass Thomas's legs. Griffin working the head with strikes. Thomas takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Griffin could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Griffin moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Thomas on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Griffin stands up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Griffin gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Griffin successfully pulls guard.
Griffin wants to sweep but no luck. Thomas is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Thomas looks gassed! Thomas would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Thomas postures up.
Griffin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Thomas is looking to improve his position.
Griffin takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Griffin passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Thomas! Thomas is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Griffin scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Griffin controlling from the full mount. A nice elbow there by Griffin. Griffin tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Griffin can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Thomas is looking to escape. Griffin dominating with strikes here. Griffin with the ground and pound from mount. Thomas tries to reverse the position but Griffin maintains control. Griffin controlling his opponent. Griffin is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Thomas can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thomas is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Thomas in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Thomas is desperately trying to improve his position but Griffin has a good base and remains in mount. Thomas is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Thomas tries to lock up and control but Griffin gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Thomas bucks Griffin off and manages to get back to his feet! Thomas gets the takedown into side control. Thomas stands up. Thomas scores with a takedown into Griffin's guard. Griffin thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Griffin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Thomas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Griffin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Thomas thows a big elbow that misses. Griffin throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Thomas must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Griffin trying to control the position.
Griffin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Griffin lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Thomas! Griffin lands a heavy elbow. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Griffin is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Thomas can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Griffin putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Griffin wants to control the pace but Thomas is squirming around nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jack Griffin dominated that round. That's time! Griffin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Griffin lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Thomas has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Thomas and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Thomas takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Thomas throws a head kick that Griffin semi-blocks.
Thomas shoots and misses and Griffin counters with a straight right hand. Griffin scores with a jab to the body. Griffin throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Thomas showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Griffin.
Horrible takedown by Thomas or perhaps it was just good defense by Griffin which made him look bad. Griffin with a nice cross. Griffin tries to clinch up. Jack Griffin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Nice defenses there by Thomas. Griffin comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Thomas gets the takedown into side control. This has been an exciting period of action! Thomas has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Thomas wants to clinch. Thomas seems to be stalking Griffin here. He circles momentarily and then unleashes a devastatic head kick! Griffin drops like a stone, out cold! WOW! Are you kidding me!? What a knockout!
