Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Tank! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Juan Chavez! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chavez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Tank throws a lazy uppercut
and Chavez counters with a two punch combo. Chavez lands a jab-cross combination.
It looks like Mike Tank has been cut. A slow jab from Chavez misses its intended target. Chavez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Chavez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Chavez throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Chavez lands a left and a right that sends Tank crashing to the canvas! Chavez dives into mount looking to finish! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Chavez fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Chavez is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Tank to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Tank shrugs it off. Chavez throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Chavez landing strikes from the mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chavez looking to ground and pound but Tank is blocking nicely. Chavez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
