Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Weller! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cocaine Chris! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Russell Pearce and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Weller. No joy for Chris on that attempt. Weller shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Chris's guard. Weller wants to pass the guard but Chris is keeping the position. Weller is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Chris is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Chris has escaped and now he's on top! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Weller bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Chris's guard. Weller postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Chris is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Weller, into his guard. Weller looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Weller escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Chris gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chris wants to pass the guard but Weller is keeping the position. Weller has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Chris can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Chris must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Weller is breathing heavily. Chris wants to control from the top but Weller keeps moving. Weller has his foot on Chris's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chris works his way back into a safe position though. Chris decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Weller, up you get! Weller has his takedown stuffed and Chris counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Weller! Weller really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Weller keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Weller has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Weller turns into Chris and is now in his guard.
Weller drops back looking for a leg! Chris is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Chris manages to kick Weller off! Weller jumps back into Chris's guard. Weller drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Weller jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Weller passes into half guard. Weller wants to work for an arm triangle but Chris is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Weller is working for a kimura but Chris is defending it quite comfortably.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Weller passes to full mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chris wants to hold on but Weller pushes him away. Weller can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Chris is looking to escape. Chris is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Weller locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Chris is forced to tap!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Chris Weller! Chris Weller is the new lightweight champion!
