Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Robert Drysdale!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Luis Alberto Perez!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Patrick Alders and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perez connects with a looping right hand.


It looks like Robert Drysdale has been cut.
Drysdale keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Perez doesn't manage to clinch there - Drysdale circles away.

Perez misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Drysdale.
Perez misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Perez tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Drysdale counters by clinching up.

and Drysdale decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Perez's guard.
Drysdale stops Perez from standing up.
Drysdale stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Perez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Perez wants to stand up but Drysdale is controlling him.
Drysdale passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Perez wants to get back to his feet but Drysdale drags him back down.
Drysdale is looking to take a break and control but Perez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Drysdale prevents Perez from escaping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Drysdale remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Perez is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Drysdale is controlling him well.

Drysdale is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Perez has escaped the position, nice work there.
Perez is letting Drysdale control him for a moment.
Perez is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Drysdale trying to control the action but Perez is working from the bottom.

Drysdale is looking to take a break and control but Perez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Perez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Drysdale. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Drysdale wants to control but Perez is keeping him busy.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Robert Drysdale just wasn't active enough.
Perez throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
The fight stays on the outside here - Perez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Perez rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Drysdale counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Perez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Drysdale slips a jab and a cross from Perez.
Perez tries to clinch but Drysdale is having none of it.
Perez lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Luis Alberto Perez will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Robert Drysdale's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A slapping leg kick lands for Perez.
Perez tries to clinch up.
Perez tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Drysdale counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Drysdale.
Perez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Drysdale is controlling him.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Perez scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Perez misses with a looping left.
Drysdale gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Perez counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Perez throws a leg kick

and Drysdale counters with a takedown into side control.
Perez is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the ropes but Drysdale has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Drysdale wants to lay and pray for a moment but Perez keeps working.

Drysdale wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Perez, who protects the arm well.
You can see the frustration on Perez's face as Drysdale controls the position.

Drysdale looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Perez pushes Drysdale away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Drysdale gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Drysdale wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Perez, who protects the arm well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Perez can do anything to dispel that myth.

Drysdale has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Perez is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Drysdale yanks on the arm and Perez is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Drysdale.
