The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Peters to the mat! Peters manages to get full guard. Peters working a defensive guard here.
Diaz makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Diaz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Peters, up you get! Diaz rushes Peters and presses him up against the cage. Peters is looking to break free of the clinch but Diaz has double underhooks. Peters is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Peters changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Diaz fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Diaz gets the takedown into side control. Diaz content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Peters really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. A lull in the action here as Diaz stalls from top position. Diaz stands up. Peters throws a left and a right that both miss
and Diaz counters with a double leg. Peters bangs his head on the mat and seems to be on queer street here... Diaz follows up with punches and the ref steps in to end the fight! It was the slam that caused all the problems.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Slam). Nathan Diaz!
