Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Phil Davis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jaime Sanchez! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Gregory Folan and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Davis shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sanchez is trying to defend but Davis finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Sanchez trying to hold on to Davis's head to control him but Davis postures up.
Davis controlling the pace. Sanchez is looking to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sanchez trying to control from the bottom.
Davis is figuring out what he wants to do next. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Sanchez trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Davis cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
That's one minute gone in the round. Davis is landing with some decent strikes but Sanchez is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Davis jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Sanchez is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Sanchez and Davis has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Davis controls the position from side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Davis has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Sanchez manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Davis controlling the pace. Davis working the head and body with strikes. Davis thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sanchez's head. Sanchez is looking to control Davis's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sanchez avoid being mounted? Davis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sanchez on the ground. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Davis in particular looking to stall. Davis sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Sanchez defending well though. Davis working Sanchez over with strikes. Sanchez wants to control but Davis is keeping busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Davis is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sanchez sees it coming and defends easily. Davis wants to pass to mount but Sanchez is defending the position. Sanchez is looking for a sweep. Davis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Sanchez is trying to maintain the position but Davis is very close to passing his half guard. Davis stalling. Sanchez is trying to control but Davis passes into side control!
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. You can see the frustration on Sanchez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Sanchez tries to bench press Davis off him but Davis keeps the position. Sanchez wants to control but Davis postures up. Sanchez managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Davis.
Sanchez seems a little lost for a moment, as Davis dominates the positioning. Sanchez is trying to get back to half guard. Sanchez trying his best to control but Davis has mounted him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Phil Davis dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Davis shoots in but Sanchez avoids the takedown attempt easily. Davis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sanchez tries to avoid it but Davis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sanchez to the ground. Sanchez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Davis looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phil Davis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Davis feints and as Sanchez raises his hands in defense, Davis changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Sanchez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Davis wants to pass the guard but Sanchez is keeping the position. Sanchez manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez trying to control but Davis is having none of it. Davis tries to reverse the position but Sanchez maintains control. Davis looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Well, with Sanchez on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Davis is tapping out... Can he escape the position? You can see the frustration on Davis's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Davis is keeping busy.

Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Davis. Davis not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Sanchez wants to sweep but no luck. Sanchez looking to control.
Davis slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Sanchez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jaime Sanchez. Davis shoots in but Sanchez avoids the takedown attempt easily. Davis shoots in but no luck this time. Davis shoots in and bounces Sanchez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Sanchez is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Davis dives into side control.
Davis controlling the position from side mount. Sanchez throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sanchez is trying to control Davis's posture but Davis avoids it. Sanchez is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Davis is staying active. Davis is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Sanchez's shoulder. That is not cool. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Sanchez is looking for a sweep. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Phil Davis dominated that second round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!
Davis fails with a takedown attempt. Davis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sanchez's waist but Sanchez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Davis off to one side. Davis shoots for a double leg takedown but Sanchez sprawls well. He's pushed Davis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phil Davis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Davis shoots for a takedown but Sanchez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Davis closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sanchez circles away. Davis fails with a takedown attempt. Davis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Sanchez is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Davis's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Davis's back! Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez struggling to keep hold of the position.
Sanchez might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Davis kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Davis covering up well under a series of strikes from Sanchez. Davis looking very determined here, making life difficult for Sanchez.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Sanchez is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Davis defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. A lull in the action here.
Sanchez is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Davis breaks Sanchez's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Davis's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Jaime Sanchez was stalling too much, according to the referee. Davis shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sanchez as he jumps to the side. Davis shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sanchez but Sanchez pushes him off and we're back to square one. Davis shoots for a double leg takedown but Sanchez sprawls well. He's pushed Davis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Sanchez tries to clinch but fails miserably and Davis counters with a takedown into side control. Davis has control of an arm but Sanchez manages to advance to Davis's back! Davis prevents Sanchez from getting a body triangle. Davis has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Davis defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Sanchez's arms. Sanchez working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. Sanchez struggling to keep hold of the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Phil Davis showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Davis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
