Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Gus Dengel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hernan Cortes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dengel comes to the cage accompanied by I Just Had Sex. Cortes has chosen Hard to see as his entrance music. Gus Dengel has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gus Dengel! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Hernan Cortes! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Andrew Berry and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A combination from Cortes does no damage. Cortes throws a right and a left that Dengel avoids nicely. Dengel scores a takedown into full mount! The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Dengel misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Dengel lands a big elbow. Dengel landing strikes from the mount. Dengel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Dengel jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Cortes is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Cortes and Dengel has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

That's one minute gone in the round. Dengel somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dengel has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Cortes. Cortes manages to escape to a better position under a series of strikes. Dengel is now in side control. Dengel misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Cortes takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Dengel wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cortes, who protects the arm well. Cortes is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Dengel asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Cortes looks for the body kick but Dengel saw that one coming. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. and Dengel counters with a left to the body. Good leg kick by Dengel there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Cortes stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Dengel. Dengel throws a front kick aimed at Cortes's knee but Cortes avoids it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dengel throws a leg kick that is checked and Cortes counters with a stiff right hand. Cortes misses with a double jab
and Dengel connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Cortes keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Dengel fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cortes avoids it really well and circles away. Dengel misses with a left hand and Cortes counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Dengel is lucky that one didn't land flush. Dengel pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dengel jabs Cortes to the body, keeping him at a distance. Dengel stuns Cortes with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Dengel uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cortes.
Cortes on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Hernan Cortes is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. A clash of legs there as Cortes blocks the low kick. Cortes steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Dengel. Cortes takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dengel thows a body shot but no joy. Decent striking displayed by Dengel there. Dengel throws a push kick but Cortes slaps the foot to one side. Gus Dengel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Dengel uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Cortes has time to react. Cortes walks into a stiff left hand from Dengel. Dengel lands with a right hand.
Cortes is rocked! Dengel looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Dengel fails in his attempt to clinch. Cortes lands a jab. Cortes connects with a crisp jab. Nice defenses there by Cortes. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Cortes throws a lazy right hand but Dengel sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Cortes takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dengel moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Cortes seems to have recovered his senses. Dengel fakes the leg kick and cracks Cortes in the body. Dengel throws a shot from downtown. Cortes moves away and avoids it. A big right from Dengel misses. Dengel connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dengel misses with a takedown attempt - Cortes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Cortes throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. A combination from Cortes does no damage. Dengel misses with a left hand and Cortes holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Cortes is fighting off a takedown attempt but Dengel is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Cortes to the mat. Cortes regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Dengel throws and elbow that misses. Cortes uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Dengel's guard. Nice move by Cortes! Cortes has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Dengel is proving hard to escape from. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cortes takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Dengel throws a body kick despite being completely out of range and Cortes counters with a one-two to the body.

Dengel missing with a left hand there. Cortes was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Dengel shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cortes as he avoids it easily. Dengel scores with a spinning back kick! Cortes has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Cortes needs to keep his hands up - Dengel had a free shot at his head there.

He's pushed Dengel's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Cortes keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Cortes throws a wild body kick that Dengel sees coming a mile off. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Dengel.

And that's the end of the fight! Gus Dengel showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dengel, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
