PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between William Barker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Xavier David (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Barker comes into the arena with The Way of the Fist - Five Finger Death Punch blaring out of the sound system. David is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Bring The Pain. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 1, fighting out of New York, Xavier David!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Anthony Taglia and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
David moves out of range as Barker throws a body kick.
David has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Barker.
Barker throws a leg kick but David moved away.
David lands with a hook. Barker tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Xavier David seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
David fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Barker misses with a hook.
A low kick from Barker is predictable there
and David counters with a nice uppercut.
David thuds his right hand into Barker's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
A clash of legs there as David blocks the low kick.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Barker sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Xavier David is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

David throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Barker's waist but Barker gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing David off to one side.

David stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Barker.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Barker drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but David manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Barker has David in his guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Barker is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
David stands up over Barker, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
David is working Barker over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Barker has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. David is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Barker.

David goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Barker rolls with the submission and now he's on top in David's guard! Nice work there by Barker!
David wants to sweep but no luck.
Barker throws a strike but David rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Barker looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

David wants to control from the top but Barker keeps moving.
David with a flurry of punches that miss.

David stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Barker has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! David manages to get his head free but now Barker has transitioned to an armbar! David grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Barker! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). William Barker!
