And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jorge Riviera!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Piper fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Riviera manages to avoid it.
Piper checks the leg kick nicely there.
A swing and a miss from Piper.
Riviera throws a sloppy body shot
and Piper counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Riviera keeps the fight on the outside.
Riviera rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Piper counters with a leg kick.
Piper uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Riviera has time to react.
Nice straight punches there by Piper. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Piper.
Piper lands the left hand.
Riviera throws a hook but Piper blocks it.
Jorge Riviera is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Piper throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Riviera sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Riviera avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Piper's corner calls for a 1-2. Piper obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Riviera bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Riviera on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Piper. Piper obviously looking to wear him down.

and Piper counters with a left and a right that stings Riviera.

and Piper counters with a head kick. That will keep Riviera thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Piper is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Piper swings for the body but Riviera moves out of range.
Piper thuds his right hand into Riviera's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Piper closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Riviera quickly recovers to half guard.

Piper throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Riviera trying to hold on to Piper's head to control him but Piper postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Piper not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Piper slows the pace down in half guard.

Piper seems to be working for a kimura but Riviera defends the submission attempt.

Piper is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Piper misses with a body shot
and Piper takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Piper fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Piper throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Riviera counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Riviera walks into a left hand.
Piper changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Piper scores with a nice strike.

Riviera stuffs the takedown attempt from Piper. Piper gets slowly back to his feet.
Piper lands a jab to Riviera's midsection.
Riviera takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Piper is looking to clinch.
Piper takes a swing at Riviera's ribcage but misses.
Piper takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Piper tries to score a power double leg takedown but Riviera sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Piper somewhat.

Piper wants to control from the top but Riviera keeps moving.

Piper got a little sloppy there for a moment and Riviera has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Piper has managed to get both his arms back between Riviera's legs - danger averted.

Piper throws a strike but Riviera rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Piper pulls Riviera in to control the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Piper bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Riviera's guard.
Riviera looking for a sweep. Not yet Riviera, not yet.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Piper accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Riviera slips a straight right by Piper.

and Piper counters with a good low kick that Riviera was not able to check.
Piper fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Riviera looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

and Piper counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Riviera steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Piper.
Piper throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Riviera misses with a lunging right hand

and Piper counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Riviera's guard now.
Piper connects with a couple of short punches.
Riviera is trying to keep Piper in close.
Piper trying to control but Riviera is working from the bottom.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Roddy Piper just wasn't active enough.
Piper throws a nice looking combination but Riviera bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Riviera swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

Piper lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Piper throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

and Riviera counters with a nice uppercut.

Piper shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Piper showed some decent athleticism there.
Piper working over Riviera with some ground and pound. Riviera looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Riviera wants to control but Piper is keeping busy.
Piper slips a nice elbow through Riviera's hands, connecting with Riviera's forehead.

Riviera is rocked!
Piper drops Riviera with a huge uppercut! Riviera drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Piper is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!
