PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Veli Urpo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randy Swick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Veli Urpo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Randy Swick!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Swick feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Swick postures up.
Swickis looking to pass into half guard but Urpo pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Urpo is in guard.
Swick tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Urpo wants to control from the top but Swick keeps moving.
Swick trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Swick really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Urpo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Swick looking to hit a scissor sweep but Urpo is one step ahead there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Urpo controls from within his opponent's guard.
Swick is looking to stand up but Urpo isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Swick looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Swick closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Urpo wants a takedown.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Swick manages to break the clinch.
Urpo shoots for a double leg takedown but Swick sprawls well. He's pushed Urpo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A good leg kick by Swick.

Swick closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Swick lands in his opponent's guard.
Swick trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Swick looks gassed!
Swick working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Swick throwing strikes but missing.

Urpo has his foot on Swick's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Swick works his way back into a safe position though.
Urpo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Swick is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Swick wants to control from the top but Urpo keeps moving.
Urpo could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Swick is looking to work some ground and pound but Urpo has wrist control.

Urpo is looking for a triangle but Swick pushes his legs off easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Urpo tries to strike from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Swick preventing the sweep.
Swick postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Urpo wants to sweep but no luck.
Urpo keeping full guard, as Swick tries to pass.

Urpo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Swick doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Urpo is tightening it up a little... Swick has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Swick reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Swick taps out! nice BJJ there by Urpo!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Veli Urpo!
