PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Kerr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renato Werdum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Mark Kerr has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Mark Kerr seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Kerr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Renato Werdum!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Werdum gets caught flat footed, as Kerr shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Kerr throws a big right hand that misses.
Kerr has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Werdum looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Kerr wants to pass the guard but Werdum is keeping the position.

Werdum is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kerr is aware though and is defending well.
Kerr works over Werdum with some ground and pound from guard.
Kerr not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Kerr postures up.
Werdum might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kerr kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Kerr passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Werdum stops Kerr from passing to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kerr wants to control but Werdum is keeping him busy.
You can see the frustration on Werdum's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Werdum is trying to get back to half guard.
Kerr sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Werdum is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Werdum is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Kerr's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Werdum has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kerr is working away from the top position though.
Werdum is looking to improve his position.

Kerr wants to control but Werdum is keeping him busy.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Werdum wants to get back to full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kerr misses with a takedown
and Kerr takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Kerr drives through with a takedown into Werdum's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Werdum keeping full guard, as Kerr tries to pass.

Werdum looking for a guillotine here but Kerr defends easily.
Kerr postures up.

Kerr tries to free his leg and advance position but Werdum is retaining full guard.
Kerr knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Werdum on the ground.

Werdum has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kerr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Werdum looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Kerr puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Werdum gets full guard.
Werdum is trying to keep Kerr in close.

Werdum looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Kerr wants to control from the top but Werdum keeps moving.

Kerr passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Kerr is breathing heavily.
Werdum tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kerr wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Werdum manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kerr's best efforts.
Werdum is staying active underneath Kerr, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Kerr prevents Werdum from standing back up.
The fighters are battling for position here. Werdum manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Kerr stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Werdum swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Werdum is looking for a triangle but Kerr pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mark Kerr will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Kerr fails with the takedown

and Werdum counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Kerr's guard now.

Werdum drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Werdum jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Werdum thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Werdum is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Werdum won't allow Kerr to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Werdum has gone for a leg lock! Kerr slips out almost immediately though and dives into Werdum's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kerr trying to control the position from guard on top but Werdum is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Werdum has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kerr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Werdum throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Werdum is looking to stand up but Kerr isn't so interested in that idea.

Werdum has his foot on Kerr's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kerr works his way back into a safe position though.
Werdum looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kerr is one step ahead there.

Werdum has momentary wrist control but Kerr slips an elbow through the middle.
Kerr not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Werdum trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Renato Werdum has got the better of the ground game so far.
Werdum pulls Kerr in to control the position.
Kerr seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Kerr has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Werdum to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Kerr is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Werdum pulls down on the head and he's put Kerr to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Renato Werdum!
